Northern Lebanon Rolls Past Manheim Central in Key Section Clash
Northern Lebanon entered Wednesday’s home matchup against Manheim Central riding a five-game winning streak, and with early Section Three positioning on the line, the Vikings answered in a big way. Behind another strong effort from Sophia Roye in the circle and a balanced offensive attack, Northern Lebanon pulled away for a 9-1 victory to stay hot and improve to 7-1.
The Vikings wasted no time getting started in the bottom of the 1st. After putting together a pair of singles, Addison Hollenbach delivered the first run of the afternoon with an RBI single that gave Northern Lebanon a 1-0 lead.
Northern Lebanon built on that edge in the 2nd. Ryleigh Hopkins singled home a run, Stephanie Palkovic brought in another on a groundout, and Addison Kubica followed with an RBI single to center as the Vikings stretched the lead to 4-0 and immediately put Manheim Central on its heels.
Manheim Central scratched across its only run in the top of the 3rd, but Northern Lebanon answered right back in the bottom half. The Vikings pushed across three more runs in the inning, with Palkovic adding an RBI single as the home side opened up a 7-1 advantage and took firm control of the game.
That was more than enough support for Roye, who continued her strong start to the season. The right-hander struck out 10 over a complete-game effort, allowing five hits and one run while walking two. Roye kept Manheim Central from mounting any kind of sustained rally and once again looked in command throughout the afternoon.
Northern Lebanon finished with 16 hits and had production throughout the lineup. Roye and Makenzie West each collected three hits, while Alyssa Shirey, Kubica, and Hopkins all added multi-hit performances. Palkovic drove in three runs to lead the offense, and the Vikings backed their pitcher with a clean defensive game that included no errors. Mykenah Johnson led the way defensively with 10 chances.
Manheim Central was led by Abby Logan, who went 2-for-3 with the team’s lone RBI. Makenna Hess also had two hits for the Barons, while Ella Ginder added another.
Northern Lebanon is now 7-1 and is set to host Lampeter-Strasburg on Friday.
