Northern Lebanon Flashes Top-End Talent at Herb Schmidt Relays

Northern Lebanon put together a strong early-season showing Friday night at the Herb Schmidt Relays at York Suburban High School, competing in a 16-team field and coming away with multiple top finishes. The Vikings were led by Luke Hentz, Cody Leedy, and a sharp performance from the boys 4x100m relay team, while the girls side also turned in several solid efforts across the track and in the field.

Girls Results

Northern Lebanon’s top girls finish came from Emma Yordy, who cleared 4’6″ to place 6th in the high jump. The Vikings also picked up top-10 field event finishes from Johbrianna Long, who was 8th in the pole vault, Mariah Kipp, who finished 9th in the discus, and KatyAnne Light, who also placed 9th in the javelin.

The girls added a 10th-place finish in the distance medley relay from Alexis Schreckengost, Emily Marinkov, Saoirse Phillips, and Elsie Shuey, while the 4x800m relay team of Lia Almer, Saoirse Phillips, Olivia Winters, and Aubri Frederick came in 11th. Mackenzie Miller also helped lead the way with 12th-place finishes in both the long jump and triple jump, giving Northern Lebanon some good all-around production.

Boys Results

Northern Lebanon’s top individual finish of the night came from Luke Hentz, who earned silver in the 1600m with a time of 4:34.94. He finished second only to Central York’s Max Mancini, giving the Vikings a strong early distance result against a quality field.

The Vikings also showed some early speed in the sprints, as the boys 4x100m relay team of Bryce Yocum, Ty Martin, Cody Leedy, and Brady Ryan ran 45.41 to take bronze. Northern Lebanon finished behind only Dallastown and Central York in one of the meet’s top sprint events.

Northern Lebanon added another silver-medal effort from Cody Leedy, who placed 2nd in the long jump with a mark of 18’8″. The Vikings also got a 5th-place finish in the distance medley relay from Hentz, Ryan, Tucker Reiber, and Thaddeus Raub, while the 4x800m relay team of Reiber, Collin Cheslock, Hentz, and Ryan finished 7th. Levi Bucks added an 8th-place finish in the pole vault, and Vincent Moyer placed 10th in the javelin.

Mixed Results

With it being a relay meet, it allowed teams to throw out some non-traditional relay teams, including mixed gender teams. In these events, Northern Lebanon did very well.  The 4×100 shuttle hurdle relay team of Johbrianna Long, Trevor Camasta, Reminisce Perez, and Ty Martin placed 6th in 1:11.27, while the 4x1600m relay team of Elsie Shuey, Emily Marinkov, Anthony Frederick, and Thaddeus Raub came in 7th with a time of 22:39.32.
