Vikings Explode in 4th to Beat Manheim Township 9-1

Coming off a tough loss to Lancaster Catholic on Monday, Northern Lebanon returned home to host Manheim Township on Wednesday. The game, featuring a Section 1 opponent against the Section 3 Vikings, was going to be a test, one which the host team passed with flying colors in a 9-1 victory.

Manheim Township grabbed the early lead in the top of the 1st when Paige Hughes drove in a run on a groundout. Northern Lebanon answered in the bottom of the 3rd, as Addison Hollenbach singled to left field on a 3-0 count to bring home the tying run and make it 1-1.

That set the stage for the Vikings’ huge 4th inning. Alyssa Shirey started the outburst with a solo home run to center field. Later in the inning, Northern Lebanon kept the pressure on with an error that brought in a run, Ryleigh Hopkinsdelivering an RBI single, Stephanie Palkovic lining an RBI double, Hollenbach adding another run-scoring single, Addison Kubica ripping an RBI double, and Sophia Roye capping the inning with an RBI single.

Northern Lebanon added another run in the 6th to finish off a strong all-around offensive performance. The Vikings finished with 11 hits in the win, with Hollenbach leading the way by going 4-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Kubica also drove in 2 runs, while Shirey went 2-for-4 with a home run and scored once. Palkovic added a double, RBI, and run scored, Hopkins finished with an RBI, 2 runs scored, and a walk, and Roye helped her own cause with an RBI and a run scored.

In the circle, Roye turned in a complete-game effort for Northern Lebanon. The hurler allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out four and walking four.

Northern Lebanon also backed Roye with clean defense, finishing the game without an error and turning one double play. Keira Palski made the most plays defensively and also stole two bases at the plate.

For Manheim Township, Hughes drove in the lone run, while Ashley Hurter collected two hits to lead the way offensively. The Blue Streaks also turned two double plays in the field.

Northern Lebanon is now 2-1 and will head to Muhlenberg on Friday.
