Over the past two weeks, cross country teams from across the country have battled through their Regional Championships for a chance to run at Nationals on Saturday, November 22nd. With the NCAA Division II Championships set for Kenosha, WI, and the Division III Championships headed to Spartanburg, SC, several local products are gearing up to compete on the biggest stage in their sport.
The Division II race will feature four LebCo alumni. The Shippensburg men’s team, which won the Atlantic Regional Championship on November 8th, includes Ryan Wolfe (Cedar Crest ’22) and Ramon Urena (Lebanon ’24) in its top five. Joining them in Wisconsin is Urena’s former teammate Caleb Hershey (Lebanon ’23), a key runner for Colorado Christian University as they head to their sixth straight national championship ranked 8th in the nation. Also in the field is Wolfe’s former Cedar Crest teammate Tommy Bildheiser (Cedar Crest ’22), representing Davis & Elkins College out of West Virginia.
This past weekend, the Lebanon Valley men’s team followed up their second straight MAC Championship by placing third at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, earning the program’s first-ever bid to the National Championship Meet. While LVC’s top seven doesn’t include any LebCo alumni, the group features standouts from across Central PA, including Rory Lieberman (Danville), Andrew Namatka (East Pennsboro), Lukas Walko (Mechanicsburg), Eric Shelton (York Christian), Wyatt Leitzel (Tri-Valley), Dylan Lenhart (Donegal), and senior Joe Chukoskie (Northwestern Lehigh), who has been a major force in the program’s recent rise. Joining the men in Spartanburg will be Coyla Bartholomew (Danville), who earned an individual bid after placing 14th at Regionals.
Though they did not race at Regionals, Lebanon Valley also has three LebCo alumni competing on this year’s team: Trevor Gipe (Lebanon ’23), Chad Keller (ELCO ’25), and Owen Kreider (Lebanon ’25).
Good luck to everyone competing at Nationals on Saturday!
