ELCO Football Season Outlook
A year ago, the ELCO Raiders began the season 1-4 against a grueling schedule. Instead of folding, they trusted their identity, found their rhythm, and clawed their way to a 5-5 regular-season finish, earning a District berth and knocking off Octorara in the opening round. That resilience is something 14th-year head coach Bob Miller believes will serve his program well as they head into the 2025 campaign.
Several key seniors from last year’s squad graduated, creating a leadership void that could rattle some programs. But Miller isn’t panicking. Instead, he’s leaning on the experience that returns.
“There were a lot of kids in talent and numbers that we lost, but we have a lot of kids coming back that have a lot of football experience from last year,” Miller said. “We may be young, but we’ve got a lot of experience coming back. We’ve had a really good rotation of kids that allowed them to get on the field nonstop.”
Among the hardworking underclassmen who fit this description is Collin Carpenter, who earned a starting role last year as a sophomore and is expected to be one of the impact players ELCO will feature this season.
The offense will also have a new look, beginning with junior Brinley Donmoyer, who takes over the quarterback role from Steven Rosado. Rosado’s toughness and grit embodied ELCO Football during his two years as a starter, and he now continues his career at Mansfield, playing Sprint Football. Donmoyer steps in ready to command the huddle with the same determination Rosado displayed throughout his high school career.
In the backfield, the Raiders turn to Ellis Gensamer, who showed flashes of playmaking ability but was limited by injuries a season ago. He’ll replace the explosive Mitchell Frederick as ELCO’s primary ball carrier. Though the Raiders’ option offense has leaned heavily on the ground in recent years, quarterback Donmoyer will also have dependable targets through the air with Dalton Pyszka at tight end, along with Griffin Kreider and Kaden Tillison at receiver.
Up front, Paul Williams and Ethan Bretzius will anchor the line on both sides of the ball, giving ELCO stability in the trenches.
Miller praised the growth mindset that runs throughout his roster, noting that beyond the headliners, players across all positions are pushing themselves to contribute.
“Whether it’s receivers, defensive backs, some guys on the line, it’s going to be fun to watch,” Miller said. “I think these kids develop as the season goes on, as young kids who are really just phenomenal athletes.”
That development has been aided by something the program has missed in recent years: togetherness. With stadium renovations finally behind them, the Raiders have enjoyed more time in the weight room, building chemistry along the way. According to Miller, the improved communication and accountability among teammates has been obvious—players are pushing each other while also keeping the game fun.
Of course, ELCO’s road will not be easy. Competing in one of the toughest leagues in Pennsylvania means tests will come quickly. The Raiders will face Twin Valley in Week 4, followed by perennial powerhouse Wyomissing in Week 5, and later battle Lampeter-Strasburg in Week 8.
Still, the Raiders plan to approach each matchup with the same steady demeanor that fueled last year’s turnaround. Williams summed it up best when he told LebCoSports.com: “Just keep running what we run, what works best, and just not try and switch up if things start to go wrong.”
Throughout the 2025 campaign, there will be challenges and setbacks, but it will also be a chance for the Raiders to show how their mentality allows them to battle through and fight their way back.
When ELCO takes the field against West York on Friday night, they’ll do so with confidence, camaraderie, and the belief that this year’s journey has the potential to reveal exactly what Raider Football is all about.
