Boys Basketball Outlook: ELCO

The preview portion was written by ELCO student-athlete Dominic Thornton, as part of our ongoing effort to give local students an opportunity to develop skills they may use in their future careers.

 ELCO Raiders 2022-2023 Boys Basketball

The ELCO Boys Basketball Team sure does have a new look this year with four of the five starters from the team’s State Playoff run the previous season graduating this past spring. With the sole returning starter for the team being junior guard Dallas George, the 2022 L-L Section Four second-team all-star had a few expectations for the way the season will play out this year. “Being the only starter back can be a little nerve racking, but it will also be fun to be one of the guys, if not the guy,” George said. He went on to state, “Teams are going to have to watch out for everyone on the floor this year. We’ve got five guys all across the floor that can shoot the three and push the tempo.”

Coming off a L-L Section Four title the year before, the expectations are high for the Raiders. With a 16-12 record in their 2021-22 campaign, the pressure is on for Coach Brad Conners to keep the momentum going into this season. “It’s all about practice. Our guys compete everyday; they need to bring them back and make eachother better,” Conners said. The players know their role and coach really emphasizes the same thing all the time, “ DEFENSE!! We want to dictate the tempo and force the opponents to take tough, guarded shots,” Conners said. Fans are looking forward and eager for back-to-back section championships, and with the effort that Coach Conners preaches in all aspects of the game, the Raiders look to have a successful season on and off the hardwood  this winter.
