Sterling Hoffman Invitational: Viking Boys Claim Team Championship, Lebanon County Athletes Shine

A mild spring day turned into an ideal Friday evening for competition at Tulpehocken, where three Lebanon County programs took part in the Sterling Hoffman Invitational.

By the end of the night, Northern Lebanon’s boys were crowned as the team champion with 102 points, while the Vikings’ girls placed 5th with 56 points. Annville-Cleona turned in a pair of strong finishes as well, with the Dutchmen boys tying for 4th at 86 points and the girls placing 6th with 54. Lebanon, who was competing with a split squad ahead of Saturday’s invitation at Hempfield, finished 12th in both the boys and girls standings.

Overall, Lebanon County athletes and relays combined for a strong collection of 72 top-eight finishes, which included 7 first-place performances in the meet.

Girls Recap

Northern Lebanon’s girls were led by Johbrianna Long, who captured the 100m Hurdles title in 17.30 after posting the top prelim time of 17.01. The Vikings also got a runner-up throw from Emily Weimer in the Javelin, a pair of top-five finishes from Mariah Kipp in the throws, and quality depth throughout the lineup in the sprints, hurdles, field events, and relays. Long’s title and Weimer’s Javelin finish helped headline Northern Lebanon’s 56-point performance.

Annville-Cleona’s girls were paced by runner-up finishes from Dana Hoover in the Shot Put and Anabella Pulaski in the Javelin. The Dutchmen also picked up podium relay finishes in both the 4×400 Relay and 4×800 Relay, while Teige Christiansen added a 3rd-place run in the 400m and Leah Tshudy placed 7th in the 1600m.

Lebanon’s top girls finish came from Natalina Harrison, who placed 3rd in the Triple Jump with a mark of 30’11.5″. The Cedars also got field-event points from Keilany Rivera Fonseca, Caradlih Valdes, and Nikauri Lozano, while Lourdes Ramos competed in both hurdle events.

Boys Recap

Northern Lebanon’s boys turned in the top Lebanon County performance of the night, winning the team title behind event wins in the 3200m, Long Jump, 4×100 Relay, 4×400 Relay, and 4×800 Relay. Thad Raub won the 3200m in 10:31.87, Cody Leedy took the Long Jump at 19’2.25″, and the Vikings swept the relay titles to help separate themselves atop the standings. Northern Lebanon also got a runner-up finish from Brady Ryan in the 400m, a 3rd from Anthony Frederick in the 3200m, and a 3rd-place run from Ty Martin in the 110m Hurdles.

Annville-Cleona matched Fleetwood for 4th in the boys team race and got a huge night from thrower Dominic Wentling, who won the Discus with a toss of 143’10” and added a runner-up finish in the Shot Put. The Dutchmen also got runner-up and 3rd-place finishes in the Javelin from Jaxon Speece and Luke Wentling, while Jon Moran placed 2nd in the 200m and Hunter Troxell ran to 4th in the 1600m and 5th in the 3200m.

Lebanon’s best boys finish came from Trystan Steckbeck, who placed 3rd in the 800m in 2:11.66. The Cedars also got a 4th-place finish from the 4×100 Relay, plus competitive sprint efforts from Nahzyil Thomas and field-event points from Davonte Montanez in the Long Jump.
