ELCO, Annville-Cleona Trade Team Wins in Section 3 Showdown
In what was a great spring weather day, ELCO hosted Annville-Cleona on Monday in a Lebanon County track and field matchup, and the Raiders came away with a split. ELCO’s girls secured an 83-67 victory, while the Annville-Cleona boys claimed an 81.5-68.5 win.
Girls Recap: ELCO 83, Annville-Cleona 67
ELCO’s girls put together a strong all-around effort on their home track, using sprint depth, hurdles, and field event points to build their winning total. Abbie Nelson helped lead the way by sweeping the 100m, 200m, and 400m for a triple-win day on the track.
The Raiders were also strong in the hurdles. Bre Etherson won the 100 hurdles and added a 3rd-place finish in the 300 hurdles, while Addison Mays picked up a win in the 300 hurdles after also placing 2nd in the 100 hurdles. ELCO swept the top three spots in the 100 hurdles and the top three spots in the 100m dash, giving the Raiders an early boost.
In the field events, Seyitan Adewale won the high jump and finished 2nd in the triple jump, Julia Wenger captured the discus and added a 3rd-place finish in the shot put, and Kenzie Eckhart took 1st in the shot put. ELCO also got key points from Ava Seifert in the 800m and javelin, Alexa Shanaman in the javelin, and Riley Keener in the pole vault.
Annville-Cleona found plenty of success in the distance races, sweeping the top three places in both the 1600m and 3200m. The Dutchmen also took wins in the 4x800m relay, 4x400m relay, triple jump, pole vault, and javelin, but ELCO’s depth across the sprints, hurdles, and throws proved enough to carry the day.

Boys Recap: Annville-Cleona 81.5, ELCO 68.5
Annville-Cleona’s boys used distance strength and a big day in the throws to take the team victory, though ELCO had several standout efforts of its own. Gawrys led the Raiders on the track, winning the 100m and placing 2nd in the 200m, while ELCO also swept the top three spots in the 100m dash.
The Raiders also found success in the jumps. Sam Keener won both the long jump and pole vault, while Jacob Kuhnepaced an ELCO sweep in the triple jump. Pena added more key points by winning the 110 hurdles and finishing 2nd in the 300 hurdles, while ELCO also picked up relay wins in the 4x800m and 4x100m.
Annville-Cleona, however, controlled the distance events and throwing competitions. The Dutchmen won the 1600m, 800m, 3200m, 4x400m relay, javelin, shot put, and discus, with the Wentlings figuring prominently in the throws. That balance helped Annville-Cleona do enough to claim the overall team result.
ELCO still got important scoring performances from Frederick in the distance races, Ben Macchione in the 400m, Avery Kurtz in both throws, and Fernandez, who tied for 3rd in the high jump in addition to scoring in the sprints.
