LebCo Baseball Season Outlook: 2026
Dutchmen Use Strong All-Around Game to Defeat Lebanon
With both teams seeking their first win of the season, Annville-Cleona hosted Lebanon on Wednesday in Annville for a Lebanon County matchup. The Dutchmen entered after their opener against Upper Dauphin was suspended due to rain, while the Cedars came in looking to bounce back from losses to Palmyra and Cedar Crest.
Lebanon struck first in the top of the 1st. Kaeler Ortiz drew a walk that forced in a run, giving the Cedars an early 1-0 lead.
Annville-Cleona answered right away in the bottom half of the inning. Zac Frentz worked a walk, Lebanon committed an error, and Tanner Stokes added a sacrifice fly as the Dutchmen scored three times to jump in front 3-1.
The Dutchmen added to their lead in the 2nd. Annville-Cleona scored once on a wild pitch, then Frentz singled down the left field line to bring home another run before Alex Shaffer followed with an RBI single to left, stretching the lead to 6-1.
Annville-Cleona kept the pressure on from there, adding a run in the 4th, another in the 5th, and one more in the 6th on the way to the 9-1 victory.
Frentz helped pace the Dutchmen’s offense, finishing with a hit, an RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. Traian Dompier scored three times and drew two walks, while Shaffer added a hit, RBI, run scored, and a walk. Landon Gilley also drove in a run for Annville-Cleona, which showed patience at the plate with six walks and was aggressive on the bases with seven stolen bases. Frentz and Dompier each swiped multiple bags, and the Dutchmen also turned a double play in the field.
On the mound, Shaffer earned the win for Annville-Cleona. The right-hander allowed two hits and one run over five innings, striking out eight and walking six. Max Ortwein followed with two innings of relief, allowing one hit while striking out three.
For Lebanon, Ortiz drove in the Cedars’ lone run. Diego Serrano, Nyzaiah Rojas, and Justin Miranda each collected a hit, while Gyanni Arnt and Ortiz drew two walks apiece. Lebanon showed a patient approach at the plate as well, drawing seven walks and stealing five bases, with Miranda swiping two.
Serrano took the loss for the Cedars, striking out nine over four innings while allowing seven runs, five of them earned. Bryant Rivera worked the final two innings in relief.
Annville-Cleona is now 1-0 and will play at Biglerville on Friday. Lebanon fell to 0-3 and will play another Lebanon County opponent when it travels to ELCO on Monday.
