New Covenant 48, Conestoga Christian 29
Last season, New Covenant played in its first District 3 championship game. This year, the Flames don’t just want to make a return trip to the 1A finals, they have set their sights higher with the goal of walking away with the trophy. On Friday night, they hosted Conestoga Christian in their first test in chasing that goal. New Covenant had played Conestoga just last week in the opening round of the CCAC playoffs, a 47-27 Flames win. But in sports, nothing is guaranteed, and rematches often give teams a chance to adjust and make things far more competitive.
The slow-starting Flames still managed to grab an early 9-7 lead in what was a 1st quarter grind. A 3-pointer from Qynne Demler helped spark New Covenant, and she went on to score 7 points in the frame.
In the 2nd, the Flames added to the advantage on the way to a 22-15 halftime lead. Freshman McKenna Kantnerknocked down a pair of threes and scored 7 points in the quarter to pace the offense. The game remained competitive, though, as outside of the three balls (9 points), 11 of New Covenant’s first-half points came at the charity stripe.
Out of the break, New Covenant stepped up its defensive intensity, and at the same time the offense started clicking. An early 3 from Kantner and two threes from Demler helped ignite the surge. Demler scored 9 points in the quarter, while Conestoga was limited to just one point, a free throw. By the end of the 3rd, New Covenant had built a commanding 39-16 lead.
Entering the 4th, little doubt remained about which team would leave the gym with the win, but Conestoga continued to battle, highlighted by four quick points from Emma Thompson. Demler responded with 5 points of her own as the Flames closed out a 48-29 victory.
Demler finished with 23 points, including four 3-pointers, and went 5-for-8 from the line. Kantner added 15 points with three 3-pointers. Moriah Simniskis scored 5 points, all in the 2nd half, while Laney Zimmerman went 4-for-6 from the free throw line in the 1st half.
With the win, New Covenant (22-3) has qualified for the PIAA State Tournament and now moves on to the District 3 semifinals, which the Flames will host Tuesday night. The opponent will be Mount Calvary, a team New Covenant has defeated three times this season. Still, in the CCAC semifinals, the Flames had to dig out of a late hole before winning in overtime. The fourth meeting will bring the highest stakes yet.

Dallastown 55, Cedar Crest 36
In the first round of the District 3 playoffs, the #14 seeded Cedar Crest Lady Falcons traveled to face the #3 seeded Dallastown Wildcats, a program that is no stranger to postseason basketball after reaching each of the last two District Championship games and winning the title a year ago.
Early on, Cedar Crest showed it was not intimidated by the moment, trading baskets with the Wildcats through the opening quarter. Dallastown held a slim 11-9 lead after one, with sophomore Ali Groff doing the damage for the Falcons by scoring 7 points in the frame.
Cedar Crest kept pushing in the 2nd quarter and managed to swing the momentum before the break. Ali Groff added five more points, and Elli Malinoski knocked down a pair of 3-pointers as the Lady Falcons took a 23-22 into halftime.
Out of the break, Dallastown leaned on its experience and depth, outscoring Cedar Crest 14-6 in the 3rd quarter to regain the lead, then finishing the job with a strong 4th quarter to pull away for a 55-36 win and protect its home floor.
In the loss, Groff led Cedar Crest with 13 points, including two 3-pointers and a 5-for-6 night at the foul line. Senior Kaila Francis, the program’s 1,000-point scorer, closed her high school career with 8 points.
Cedar Crest finishes the 2025-26 season with a 14-12 record. While the Lady Falcons will graduate a major piece in Francis, the future remains bright as Cedar Crest is set to return four starters when it takes the floor again next season.
