New Covenant 59, High Point Baptist 53
On Friday night, the Flames hosted High Point Baptist, the defending District 3 champions, in a matchup that lived up to the billing.
The game got off to an electric start as the two teams went bucket for bucket. As a result, the scoreboard read 17-17 at the end of the 1st quarter. In the opening frame, Ben Rhine carried the scoring load for New Covenant, tallying 12 points while going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and knocking down two three-pointers.
The scoring slowed in the 2nd quarter, but the Flames used it to their advantage, taking a slim one-point lead into halftime. A timely three from Braden Demler proved to be the difference in the low-scoring stanza.
In the 3rd quarter, it appeared High Point was ready to take control, as they built a five-point lead heading into the final eight minutes. However, the Flames had one more surge in them. In the 4th quarter, New Covenant erupted for 24 points, blowing past High Point behind sharp shooting from Grayden Summers and Talan VanderPloog, who each drilled two three-pointers. Summers poured in nine points in the quarter, while VanderPloog added eight, fueling the come-from-behind victory.
For the game, Rhine led the Flames with 18 points. Summers finished with 14, and VanderPloog added 13.
Following another impressive win, New Covenant (11-4) will look to keep the momentum rolling when they travel to Shalom Academy on Tuesday evening.

Cedar Crest 80, McCaskey 72
After winning five straight games, the Falcons saw that streak come to an end Monday night against Hempfield. On Thursday, they had an opportunity to respond with a major Section 1 matchup at home against McCaskey.
The game opened with the two teams trading punches, as Cedar Crest held an 18-16 edge after one quarter of play behind 8 points from Jemar Pauleus.
In the 2nd quarter, McCaskey’s defense tightened up, while their offense caught fire from beyond the arc. Five three-pointers in the frame allowed the Red Tornado to build a 37-28 lead heading into halftime.
Cedar Crest began to shift momentum in the 3rd quarter, despite McCaskey sophomore Demere Salisbury heating up with 13 points in the period. The Falcons countered with 11 points from Pauleus and 9 from Antonio Tirado, trimming the deficit as they headed to the final quarter trailing by four.
What followed was a dominant closing act. In the final eight minutes, Cedar Crest erupted for 30 points to storm past McCaskey and complete the comeback. Pauleus rose to the moment in a big way, scoring 20 points in the 4th quarter alone. In the second half, he earned 13 trips to the free throw line and converted 12 of them.
Pauleus finished with a game-high 41 points. Antonio Tirado and Cam Tirado each added 14 points to support the effort. Salisbury led McCaskey with 29 points.

Penn Manor 70, Lebanon 57
The Cedars have been playing inspired basketball as of late, despite a string of losses to Section 1 opponents. On Thursday night, they looked to turn the tide with a home matchup against Penn Manor.
The Comets jumped out early, holding a 16-11 advantage after the 1st quarter. Lebanon responded with an excellent 2nd quarter, flipping the momentum and taking a 30-26 lead into halftime. In the opening half, Derek Franco led the way with 12 points, while Manny Martinez knocked down two three-pointers on his way to 8 points.
Penn Manor answered in the 3rd quarter, but 10 points from Martinez helped the Cedars cling to a one-point lead heading into the final frame. In the 4th quarter, foul trouble for Lebanon combined with clutch shooting from the Comets allowed Penn Manor to swing the scoreboard back in their favor.
Martinez finished with 18 points, including three three-pointers. Franco added 14 points, while Noriah Jones also reached double figures with 11. Penn Manor proved decisive at the free-throw line, converting 22 attempts in the game.
For Lebanon (7-10), with five games remaining, there is still time to make a late playoff push. That journey continues Monday night with a challenging road matchup at Hershey against the reigning state runner-up.

ELCO 63, Donegal 41
On Tuesday, the Raiders hosted Donegal as they looked to get back in the win column following consecutive losses to Octorara and Lancaster Catholic.
ELCO wasted little time asserting control, jumping out to a 17-6 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. The early scoring was sparked by Josiah Hayes and Paul Williams, who each knocked down three-pointers to set the tone.
The perimeter shooting continued into the 2nd quarter, as ELCO effectively put the game out of reach before halftime. Building a 20-point advantage, Hayes scored 9 points in the quarter, while Kaden Tillison, James Dolan, and Devin Gutierrez all connected from beyond the arc.
The second half was played much more evenly, but the Raiders remained firmly in control the rest of the way, never allowing Donegal to seriously threaten.
Hayes led ELCO with 17 points, while Tillison added 15. Both players hit a three-pointer and went 4-for-5 from the free throw line in the victory.

In a game that was broadcast on LebCo Sports Live on Monday night, the Dutchmen traveled to Northern Lebanon to face a Vikings squad eager to avenge a one-point loss to Annville-Cleona back on December 9th.
