The first round of the PIAA State Golf Championships took place on Monday at Penn State, bringing together the top high school golfers from across the Commonwealth.
Among those competing are five athletes representing Lebanon County: Benjamin Allwein (Annville-Cleona), Marissa Battistelli (Palmyra), Bryn Brandt (Cedar Crest), Logan Francis (Annville-Cleona), and Dylan Ramsey (Cedar Crest).
The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with the second and final round, where each will look to finish strong on the state’s biggest stage.
Cedar Crest will then compete in the Team Championship Tournament on Wednesday, having received an at-large bid as the team with the lowest score among all District runners-up from across Pennsylvania.

AAA Girls
Playing on the Penn State Blue Course, Bryn Brandt, the Cedar Crest freshman and reigning District 3 Champion, finished the 1st round of States tied for 2nd after firing a 74 (+2). Tied with two others, they trail Elizabeth Forward’s Mya Morgan, who holds a five-stroke lead after finishing the day with a 69 (-3).
Palmyra’s Marissa Battistelli, also a freshman, is currently 35th with an 89 (+17).
AAA Boys
On the Blue Course at Penn State, Cedar Crest’s Dylan Ramsey is currently tied for 11th on the leaderboard. The senior, who has been a mainstay on the PIAA golf scene throughout his high school career, finished the 1st round with a 73 (+1).
Leading the field is Daniel Boone’s Chase Yenser, who clocked in with a 68 (-4). That said, just three strokes separate 2nd and 11th place.
AA Boys
Playing on the White Course at Penn State, Annville-Cleona freshman Benjamin Allwein is currently in 5th place, shooting a 73 (+1). Fellow Dutchman, senior Logan Francis, is tied for 33rd after carding a 79 (+7) over the course of the first 18 holes.
Atop the leaderboard is Scranton Prep’s Cole Powell, who finished the day with a 68 (-4) and currently holds a one-stroke lead over the next closest competitor.
