On Saturday, the District 3 Golf Championships wrapped up at York’s Honey Run Golf Club. The AAA field played its opening round on Thursday, while the AA golfers teed off Friday. Saturday featured the final 18 holes for those who made the cut.
Among those entering the final round with momentum was Bryn Brandt. After Thursday’s round, the Cedar Crest freshman held a three-stroke lead atop the leaderboard. Undeterred by nerves, Brandt birdied the opening hole and never relinquished control, going on to claim the District 3 AAA Girls Championship and qualify for the PIAA State Championships.
Brandt won’t be the only LebCo freshman heading to Penn State. Marissa Battistelli of Palmyra finished ninth overall, earning the final state qualifying spot after winning a playoff for the last position.
In the AAA Boys competition, Dylan Ramsey placed fifth to secure his fourth consecutive trip to States. Ramsey, the 2022 state champion and last year’s bronze medalist, posted consistent rounds of 72–72 (E) to move up three spots on the final day. Fellow senior Carson DiBiaso narrowly missed qualifying after falling in a playoff but will serve as the first alternate for the PIAA Championships. Palmyra sophomore Brady Hughes also had a strong showing, missing the cut by just two strokes while gaining valuable experience.
In AA Boys, Benjamin Allwein and Logan Francis both advanced to States for Annville-Cleona. Allwein made a late move on the second day to tie for first before losing in a playoff — another impressive mark on the résumé of the talented freshman. Francis, a senior, finished fourth to punch his own ticket to Penn State.
In team play, both Cedar Crest and Annville-Cleona earned runner-up finishes. Cedar Crest came up three strokes short of Hershey in the AAA bracket, while Annville-Cleona tied York Catholic before falling in a one-hole playoff that decided the AA team title. Only the district champion advances to compete in the State Team Tournament.
In total, five LebCo golfers qualified to compete in the PIAA State Championships as individuals: Bryn Brandt, Marissa Battistelli, Dylan Ramsey, Benjamin Allwein, and Logan Francis.
The State Championships will be held Monday and Tuesday, October 21–22, at Penn State University.
