Cross Country: County Teams Compete at Dutchmen Invitational; AC Girls Claim Team Title

Saturday at Union Canal Tunnel Park, over 35 high schools gathered for the Dutchmen Invitational, hosted by Lebanon Valley College. All six of LebCo’s teams were among the runners lining up for the exciting races. The event featured 256 girls and 437 boys, making for a highly competitive meet with strong representation from across the region.

The Annville-Cleona Girls turned in a standout team performance to capture the Team Championship, finishing with 90 points, well ahead of second-place Mechanicsburg, which scored 144. Leading the way was Mackenzie Stellmach, who finished 3rd in 19:01.1, followed closely by her sister Lucy Stellmach in 9th (19:59.2) and Leah Tshudy in 15th (20:31.5). The trio’s depth and consistency were key factors in the dominant showing by the Dutchmen.

Palmyra’s Girls also had an impressive outing, finishing 3rd overall, highlighted by Amber McCurdy, who crossed the line 17th in 20:36.3. Their performance helped solidify a strong LebCo presence at the front of the field.

In the boys’ race, Palmyra emerged as the top LebCo team, finishing 3rd overall, while Annville-Cleona placed 7th. Palmyra’s Cornelius Cummings led the way with a 2nd-place finish in 15:53.6, followed by teammate Joshua Miller, who claimed 4th in 16:05.6. Annville-Cleona’s Oliver Funck crossed the line 6th (16:12.6), with Benjamin Boyd adding a 14th-place effort (16:34.6).

It’s important to note that not all teams ran their top athletes in this early-season meet, but don’t be mistaken — the performances on Saturday were impressive nonetheless.

On the collegiate side, Lebanon Valley College showed solid form, with both the men’s and women’s teams finishing 2nd behind the Naval Academy, a Division I program. For both Dutchmen squads, these results offered an encouraging start to a season that carries high expectations.
