Savannah Kleinfelter

During the Week of September 8th, Annville-Cleona’s Kleinfelter made a statement in goal, helping the Dutchmen sweep a three-game stretch with wins over Octorara, Solanco, and Donegal. The senior goalkeeper turned aside 31 shots on 36 attempts, showcasing her reflexes, composure, and leadership between the pipes. Her standout performances earned her recognition as LebCoSports.com Athlete of the Week.
Kleinfelter, known to friends and family as “Vanna,” has continued her solid play throughout the season. Most recently, she recorded 22 saves on 23 shots against Camp Hill, with the only goal coming on a penalty stroke in a narrow 1-0 loss.
“I want to lift up our young team and encourage them to be the best they can,” Kleinfelter said, emphasizing her commitment to both personal performance and team leadership.
A natural leader, Kleinfelter embraced the goalie role in ninth grade after her coaches encouraged her to give it a try. “I only started in ninth grade, but I knew I had to put the work in,” she said. Over the past four seasons, she has developed into an anchor for the Dutchmen, taking every rep, drill, and preseason day in stride. “My mom coached me early on and taught me to be aggressive and work hard,” Kleinfelter added.
Kleinfelter’s path to excellence began in eighth grade, when she first picked up a field hockey stick. “I will always remember the class ahead of me and all the good memories we had. They left us with big shoes to fill—not just on the field, but as people,” she said.
Coach Carrie Gingrich praised Kleinfelter’s contributions: “Savannah stepped into the goalie position her freshman year knowing what a strong athlete she was. From that moment on, the rest is history. She has been a huge part of our success over the past four seasons, and we couldn’t be more proud of her.”
Gingrich added, “For the last two years, she’s been our only goalie—taking every single rep, drill after drill, day after day. Even through the long, hot days of preseason, she never once complained. Her hard work, dedication, and toughness have made her an invaluable leader for our team. We are so grateful for everything she has poured into this program.”
Off the field, Kleinfelter balances her athletic commitments with academics and personal goals. Outside of school and sports, she enjoys beach trips, boating on Indian River Bay, and spending time with family in Delaware. Also, athletics run in the family, with her sibling Shiloh Kleinfelter competing in soccer and basketball.
When it comes to a future career, Kleinfelter is well on her way. She is completing her CNA and PCA certifications at CTC and plans to continue her education with an associate degree in nursing, eventually pursuing a BSN.
Through her skill, toughness, and leadership, Kleinfelter has become a cornerstone of the Annville-Cleona program. We congratulate her on being named Athlete of the Week and wish her and the Dutchmen continued success as they pursue their goals this season.
