The Lancaster Lebanon League’s Section 4 golf season teed off Monday afternoon at Bent Creek Country Club, the home course of Lancaster Catholic. In the first test of the fall, Pequea Valley set the pace with a team score of 319, finishing atop the standings. Annville-Cleona placed second at 332, establishing themselves early as one of the top contenders in the division.
The Dutchmen also claimed the top two spots on the individual leaderboard. Ben Allwein fired a 73 to earn medalist honors, while teammate Logan Francis was just two shots back with a 75, giving Annville a strong 1–2 punch. Supporting their efforts were Will Kerwin (84), Aidan Lezon (100), Luke Cisney (101), and Cain Soliday (102), rounding out the balanced six-man squad.
Lebanon was also represented in the season opener, as Trinity Leeper carded a 99. Her score placed her 13th overall in the field, an impressive showing considering she was not only the Cedars’ lone competitor but also the only female golfer on the course.
Pequea Valley’s depth proved to be the difference in the team standings. Max Hershey (77) and Chase Diaz (78) both finished in the top five, while Josh Stoltzfus (81) and Dion Stoltzfus (83) helped secure the Braves’ narrow victory over Annville-Cleona.
The rest of the field included Lancaster Country Day (369), Lancaster Catholic (375), and Lancaster Mennonite (393).
With one match complete, Section 4 golfers now look ahead to their next competition. The second round of league play is scheduled for September 2, when Lebanon will serve as host at Lebanon Country Club. Annville-Cleona will no doubt look to even the score with Pequea Valley in what is shaping up to be a season-long battle at the top of Section 4.
