When Nick Lambros took the reins as head football coach of Cedar Crest, he faced a formidable rebuilding job. The Falcons had lost a host of talented players to graduation. The list of players they had to replace is extensive, including many that are now on collegiate rosters at all levels, including Division 1. Despite the losses to graduation, Coach Lambros and his staff have revamped their own version of a strong state playoff contender.

The Falcons compete in District 3, Group 6A, with the best teams not only in the Lancaster-Lebanon League but some of the best teams in the state. Despite the losses to graduation and the quality of teams on the schedule, Coach Lambros has prepared his team to compete with the best.

In order to make the state playoffs in Group 6A, a team needs to finish in the top 10 of District 3 teams. Qualifying in Group 6A is no easy task. The teams that qualify for the state playoffs do so based on power points. Power points are calculated based not only on a team’s record but also on the quality of the teams they beat along with their records. Calculating a team’s rating is not a simple process.

After seven weeks of play, the Cedar Crest Falcons are in a position where they can control their own playoff fate. Right now, the Falcons sit in 7th place in District 3 6A (Top 10 qualify). If they run the table and win their last three games with J. P. McCaskey, Hempfield, and Lebanon, they are in the playoffs with a 7-3 record. Although, if they lose one of their last three games the picture becomes more clouded. With a 6-4 record, the Falcons are thrown into a log jam for the last four spots in the 6A playoff picture with Hempfield, Cumberland Valley, Waynesboro, Chambersburg, and Governor Mifflin.

Regardless of the playoff picture, Head Coach Lambros, along with his coaching staff and players, have much to feel good about. With the guidance of a strong coaching staff, young players stepped up to fill the gaps left by graduation and establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with. The Falcon tradition of success on the gridiron continues.
