Delaney Miller

During the week of September 9th, the Palmyra Girls Soccer Team played in three games, losing two by a goal and picking up a huge 8-0 victory over CD East. In each of those games, Delaney Miller scored a goal. The senior has continued to provide leadership, along with solid play, as the Lady Cougars are working towards a postseason bid. As a result of her outstanding performance, Miller was voted as a LebCo Athlete of the Week.

Miller’s offensive prowess has continued, as she has scored in all but one of the last six games. With an assist in the game, she didn’t score, but she has a six-game points streak and has totaled six goals in that span.

While Miller has set a goal to personally score ten goals and assist on ten more, her focus is far from personal accolades. In fact, when asked about her goal scoring, Miller said, “Last week, my performance would not have been possible without the help of my teammates. They were able to help me get the ball up the field and get into a position so that I was able to score.”

Coach Tim Grinstead said this about Miller’s impact on the team: “Delaney is one of the hardest working competitors we have. She has incredible skill and speed/athleticism, and she is an unselfish teammate. This is her 2nd year as captain, but she has grown so much as a leader and her ability to serve others. I am excited to see her being rewarded for her effort.”

Miller reflected on her role as team captain and said, “First and foremost, my priority is being there for my teammates through all of the good and bad moments and encouraging them.”

The senior leader has developed an understanding of the game and the sacrifices with the support of a strong network. She thanked her varsity coaches (Coach Tim, Coach Mara, Coach Kenny & Coach Tanner), along with her club coaches (Garfield Desliva and Mike Lamarca). She also benefits from a very supportive family that is always cheering her on.

Her family knows a thing or two about sports. Her mother played Soccer at Slippery Rock. Her father, Greg, is a bit of a member of the Palmyra Sports Hall of Fame and still holds two Track & Field sprinting records, along with the 100m Lebanon County Meet record. He went on to run at Penn State.

Miller also runs track in the spring season and helps keep the sprints on lockdown alongside her teammates. She is also a member of Palmyra’s Unified Bocce team. Her athletics have not left a lot of “free time” in her life, but she does enjoy shopping with her younger sister when she gets the opportunity.

Next year, Miller is planning to continue her soccer career at Kutztown University. Beyond competing on the athletic field, Miller plans to major in Psychology with the goal of becoming a sports psychologist or speech pathologist.

While Miller is excited for the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level, her focus right now is helping her team make the postseason. As the Lady Cougars have improved their record to 5-5 following Saturday’s victory over Exeter, they find themselves right back in the mix.

e wish Delaney and all of her Palmyra teammates all the best as they continue to move up the District 3 Power Rankings this season.

Lily Rohrer

During the week of September 9th, the New Covenant Girls Soccer Team went 2-1 with wins over Lebanon and York Christian. As the Flames have moved into postseason contention, their midfield has been fully under control, aided by the strong play of Lily Rohrer. The junior has helped to transition to the offensive attack, which resulted in a season-high fourteen goals against York Christian. Her all-out, never-quit style of play has also resulted in strong defense that has helped New Covenant to six wins in eight games this season. As a result of her efforts, Rohrer was voted as a LebCo Athlete of the Week.

When asked about her performance, Rohrer highlighted her role as a midfielder but finished by saying, “Overall, our team works well together, and we all support each other.” This is something that is reflected both on and off the field.

Head Coach Cody Kantner, who has coached Rohrer since she was in elementary school, further validated her commitment to the team when he said, “She is humble and one of the hardest workers on the team, never complaining and giving her full effort to support the team.”

He talked about her play, saying, “She has excelled in that role. Her efforts to mark opponents, moving hard to the ball, and breaking up plays has been critical to both our offensive and defensive success.”

Speaking of offensive success, Rohrer has scored four goals of her own this season. The Flames have outscored their opponents by a margin of 36-11.

In terms of goals, Rohrer is hoping to continue to affect her team’s play in a positive way, giving 100% and helping the team make the postseason. While Rohrer thanks her coaches, she also recognizes the impact that team captain Miracle Hershey has had in pushing the team to be its best each game.

Rohrer has had the benefit of watching her older sister, Renae, as she has excelled in volleyball. Renee is currently a member of the Marymount University Women’s Volleyball Team. Volleyball is a sport with which the younger Rohrer was involved during her freshman year before transitioning to varsity soccer after having played the sport since she was five years old.

For now, we wish Lily and all of her teammates the best as they continue to battle through the 2024 season while making memories along the way.
