Northampton did not get a berth to the NJCAA CWS, which shocked many observers. The Mount didn’t have enough of a body of work to qualify. The Alabama Crimson Tide will travel to Tallahassee as the two seed for a first round matchup against (3) University of Central Florida on Friday. The region features (1) Florida State and (4) Stetson.

Tyler Long, Mount Saint Mary’s University, (Annville-Cleona ’20) Season Stats Upcoming Schedule
The Mount entered the MAAC Tournament as the four seed. They opened on Wednesday afternoon, defeating (5) Canisius by a score of 4-3. Long had one hit in five at bats (Game Story and Box Score). In game two versus (1) Fairfield, Long did the “team guy” things that helped in a big way. Facing the conference pitcher of the year, Long had a fourteen pitch plate appearance in the first. He added two more plate appearances of note, seeing 30 of that guy’s 99 pitches before he left the mound in the fourth. From there, it was a slugfest in which MSM prevailed 12-10, with Long scoring twice, reaching on a walk and a fielder’s choice, driving in two runs (Game Story and Box Score). Advancing to the semifinals, Mount Saint Mary’s was unable to hold onto an early lead and their rally fell short late as they lost to (2) Niagara, 8-6. The senior SS walked and scored a run in the 7th (Game Story and Box Score). The Mount advanced to the semi-final for a rematch with top seed Fairfield. Long was hitless as the Mount fell in extras, 6-5 (Game Story and Box Score). Seemingly destined for the “also ran” category just six weeks ago, MSM played really good baseball down the stretch and finished two games shy of a regional.
Taking over the shortstop role as a freshman in the early part of the conference schedule, Long blossomed as a sophomore, hitting .308 with 38 runs and 27 RBI including a 4 for 6 game with four RBI versus Merrimack in early April. His junior season saw him put up a ridiculous opening weekend where he was 8 for 11 and earned MAAC Player of the Week honors, en route to a .323 average with a .422 OBP and a second team All Conference award. For his senior season, he finished with a .290 batting average, setting personal season highs in HR (5), RBI (38—3rd on team), hits (63—2nd on team), OBP (.437—3rd on team), runs (57—2nd on team), and walks (42—2nd on team), including a mid April weekend against Iona that showed him 6 for 10 with five walks, four RBI, and five runs scored.
Tyler Long ends his collegiate career as the all time runs scored leader at Mount Saint Mary’s with 148. He is second in HBP (41) and tied for second in walks (88), fifth in hits (194) and at bats (657), tenth in games (178) and tied for tenth in RBI (98) and stolen bases (29). He finishes up as a .295 hitter with a .407 on base percentage and .934 fielding percentage. He graduated with a Bachelors in Elementary Education/Special Education and intends to immediately pursue a Masters degree, and will attempt to catch on as a graduate assistant college baseball coach.

Gage Miller, Alabama University (Palmyra ’21) Season Stats Upcoming Schedule
Despite an early 3-0 lead, the Crimson Tide were unable to pull off an opening round win in the SEC tournament, falling 10-5 to South Carolina. Miller’s second inning sac fly was the third run of the day for ‘Bama, and he scored following a single in the fourth to bring the Tide within two, but SC’s offense did not relent, adding runs in the fifth, sixth, and eighth (Game Story and Box Score). Alabama returned home to continue to work and await their fate on Monday morning for the regional selections. They were rewarded with a slot in Tallahassee. They open Friday as the two seed against (3) University of Central Florida.
