Track & Field: At Black Knight Invite, Cedar Crest & Lebanon Combine for Seven Gold, Six Silvers

On Saturday, twenty-three teams, mostly from the Lancaster Lebanon League, competed at the 20th annual Black Knight Invitational at Hempfield. Among those teams were Cedar Crest and Lebanon. The two LebCo schools ended the day combining to win SEVEN GOLD medals in the girls’ competition. When factoring in the boys, the Falcons and Cedars combined SIX SILVER medals. The thirteen first and second-place finishes is an even more impressive number when considering that there are only a total of thirty-six events (eighteen for each gender).

The stunning haul for the Girls was spearheaded by three talented athletes who each won two events. Lebanon’s Zariyah Whigham won the Triple Jump and the Long Jump. The senior broke her own school record by measuring a leap of 39’1.25″ to win the event by over four feet. Cedar Crest sophomore Kaddel Howard took gold in the 200m (24.36) and 400m (56.88). Elianna Schneider, also a sophomore for Crest, won the Javelin with a throw of 140’9″ and High Jump with a jump of 5’2″. The Falcon 4x800m team also earned gold. Cedar Crest’s Lizzie Lowe (800m) and Opeyemi Ojo (Triple Jump) each claimed silver in their respective events.

The Boys also had a great day in Landisville. Cedar Crest’s Leo Tirado cleared the bar at 6’2″ to take 2nd in the High Jump while also finishing 7th in the 100m and aiding the 4x100m team to a 7th place finish. Lebanon’s Jalik Hill also medaled in multiple events, finishing 2nd in the 400m with a 52.58 and 5th in the 200m. Also on the track, Lebanon’s Ramon Urena Batista ran the 1600m in 4:30.5 to take silver. Cedar Crest’s Alex Kissinger was the highlight in the field, taking 2nd in the Shot Put with a throw of 49’0.5″.
