Cedars Boys Basketball Season Outlook

Last year, the Cedars struggled as they posted a winless record. Kris Uffner, now entering his 2nd year as Lebanon’s Head Coach, used the experience last year to give valuable playing time to many underclassmen. This season will show if that chance to develop his young athletes has paid off. With that said, they will not have an easy go of it in Section 1 of the Lancaster Lebanon League.

According to Uffner, there is a clear vision of where the path the program is on, but it will “take some time to get there”. For Uffner, having an understanding of what it takes to win is something that he learned while playing for Lebanon and serving as the point guard in the mid-nineties as they were a powerhouse. More recently, he served for several years developing players in Lebanon’s youth program before taking over the reins from Tim Speraw.

The Cedars will have to travel the path this year having graduated Eman Mason, who served as the leading scorer a season ago. The silver lining here is that the younger players will have an opportunity to lead. Malachi Briddell is a player of high interest, as he is a solid athlete who could be a game-changer as he enters his sophomore season. Briddell received a substantial amount of playing time as a freshman and just spent the Fall season showing that he possesses a unique ability to strike at any time. Another player to watch is junior Emmanuel Suarez, who missed a large portion of last year with an injury but showed promise late in the year when he was able to get back onto the court. Junior Ben DiScuillo and senior Braylon Beaver are also players who will help the Cedars get back into the win column. One other player who may also help is senior Juan Torres, who joins Lebanon after transferring after serving as New Covenant’s second-leading scorer last season.

While it may not look pretty on the win-loss column again this year and the Cedars will go undeterred, the expectation among those in the program is that they will play with pride and show improvement on their way to developing into a better team. Time will tell how far they will get this year on that journey.
