Cedar Crest Girls Basketball Season Outlook
Last season, Cedar Crest won 14 games and made it into the District 3 Playoffs. Several key members of that team are returning for ’23-‘24 and will be looking to build upon the foundation laid last year.
Allie Metzgar and Lizzie Lowe headline the tough senior class that provides leadership through their experience and how they play. Metzgar averaged 9.2 points per game as a junior, drilling 35 three-pointers and earning 1st Team All-County honors. Lowe contributed 9.0 points per game and also provided solid rebounding.
The roster of Crest features a balance of the experience mentioned above combined with some younger talent, with sophomore Kaila Francis being the most notable. The 6’2” Francis averaged 10.2 points and 6.8 rebounds as a freshman. Having put in the work during the offseason, she will be looking to make a leap during her 2nd year playing at the varsity level.
One notable change to the Cedar Crest lineup is the addition of Head Coach Ashli Shay, who takes over for Will Weninger after serving as his assistant last year. Previously, Shay was ELCO’s head coach for 12 seasons. Even with the coaching change, some things will remain the same for this talented lineup: they take pride in being tough defensively and on the boards. Fundamentally sound, the Falcons will be in the hunt to extend their season deep into the postseason.
