Girls Basketball: Palmyra v Susquehanna Township (2-23-24)

District 3 Playoffs

Susquehanna Twp 48, Palmyra 30

After an opening-round win where the Lady Cougars held Cocalico to just 19 points, they took to the road for a 5A quarterfinals matchup with Susquehanna Township. The Indians boasted a 21-1 regular season record on their way to winning the Mid Penn Conference – Capital Division Championship. To win this one, Palmyra would need to figure out a way to slow down the speedy team from Susquehanna Township that scored an average of 49.2 points over their last five regular season contests.

In the 1st quarter, Palmyra battled hard and held Township to just 12 points, trailing by 5 points. The 2nd quarter was almost a carbon copy, as Palmyra faced a 23-13 deficit at the half.

In the 3rd quarter, Susquehanna Township got their offense rolling, scoring 16 points to extend their lead to 18 points. In the 4th quarter, Palmyra made it interesting, cutting it down to a 14-point game with just four minutes remaining. They could not get any closer, as Township was able to hold on for the win.

Keely Bowers led Palmyra with 11 points, a performance that included the senior going 4-4 from the free throw line.

Palmyra (16-8) will now move into the consolation round. Due to a power outage at Northern York, they will only find out on Saturday if they will play Northern or Red Land on Tuesday. They have already qualified for States, so it will be a matter of where they will be seeded, making the next two games very important.
