Girls Basketball: Palmyra v Red Land (2-27-24)

District 3 Playoffs

Palmyra 49, Red Land 20

In the last game of the regular season on February 10th, the Lady Cougars were denied a share of the Keystone Division Championship when they suffered a tough 44-33 loss to Red Land. On Tuesday, the two teams met again at Palmyra High School, this time in a seeding game that will determine where they will fall when the PIAA State Tournament begins.

Looking to exact some revenge for the loss two weeks ago, Palmyra showed determination from the outset. Addi Salus scored 5 points in the 1st quarter as the Palmyra defense bared its teeth and held the Patriots to just two points. The 2nd quarter was much the same, as Mya Doster came up big in scoring 8 points. At halftime, Palmyra led 25-7.

In the 3rd quarter, Red Land more than doubled their point total but could not find a way to slow down the Cougars. Keely Bowers and Emma Sibbach each had three-pointers as Palmyra built a 23-point advantage heading into the final eight minutes. In the 4th, the Patriots could still not crack the Cougar defense. With a three-pointer from Mackenzie Margut, the Cougars cruised to the 29-point win.

For the game, Salus led Palmyra with 16 points. Doster scored 13 points, as she was dominant down low. She also drew several fouls and converted on those opportunities by going 7-10 from the free throw line.

Palmyra (17-8) move on to the 5th place game, which will be played on Thursday night when they host Manheim Central.
