Boys Basketball: Cedar Crest v Carlisle (2-27-24)

District 3 Playoffs

 Cedar Crest 50, Carlisle 49

Following Friday’s loss to Cumberland Valley, Cedar Crest moved to the consolation bracket, where they would need to win one of their next two games in order to qualify for the PIAA State Tournament. On Tuesday, the Falcons traveled to Carlisle to take on the #3-seeded Thundering Herd coming off of a loss to Reading.

Determined more than ever, Crest jumped out early to build a 4-point lead by the end of the 1st quarter. The early scoring was led by Aiden Schomp, who scored 5 points, including a three-pointer. While the opening quarter was good, the Falcons looked downright dominant in the 2nd quarter. Six players contributed to the 18 points that Crest would score in the quarter. RJ Young led the quarter’s scoring with 5 points, including a three-ball of his own, as Cedar Crest held a 29-15 lead at the half.

While Crest came out in the 3rd quarter continuing to score, Carlisle was not going to go away that easily. While Leo Tirado scored 6 points and Young scored 4 points, the Thundering Herd began hitting shots to cut into the Crest lead. Leading 38-33 entering the final quarter, Crest had to stave off a valiant effort that was made by Carlisle. A late three-pointer by the Herd cut the lead down to just a single point, but time expired before any more heart-attack-worthy moments could take place.

With 13 points, Tirado led the Cedar Crest scoring. Young finished with 11 points, while Schomp had 10 points.

With the victory, Cedar Crest (21-7) claimed their invite into the PIAA State Playoffs. The Falcons will next play on Friday night when they take on top-seeded Central York in the 5th place game.
