Waldron Strikes Gold as Palmyra, ELCO Combine for 13 Medals at Pan-Ram Invitational

After a cool start gave way to more comfortable spring weather, Saturday’s 37th annual Pan-Ram Invitational at Central Dauphin brought together a big field in Harrisburg for one of the Mid-Penn’s signature meets. Among the Lebanon County teams in attendance were Palmyra and Lancaster Lebanon League’s ELCO, with the Raiders looking to gain experience for its relay teams.

With the top 8 finishers in each event earning medals.  the two local programs combined to bring home 13 medals in a loaded field.

Girls Recap

Palmyra’s girls were led by Maddy Waldron, who struck gold in the 200m with a winning time of 25.13 after also taking 4th in the 100m finals in 12.42. Waldron was one of the top local stories of the day, and she also helped the Cougars medal in a pair of relays giving her four medals during a busy day of work.

Palmyra’s 4×400 relay of Emily Bearinger, Allie Fink, Ella Stuart, and Maddy Waldron claimed silver in 4:09.13, while the 4×100 relay of Allie Fink, Emily Bearinger, Cala Hipple, and Maddy Waldron placed 5th in 50.63. The Cougars also earned another relay medal in the 4×800, where Chelsea Herr, Laura Reese, Olivia Yorty, and Katie Dromgoole finished 5th in 10:55.25.

ELCO’s girls also landed on the podium in the 4×800 relay, with Riley Keener, Josie Winters, Abigail Nelson, and Ava Seifert taking 3rd in 10:50.76.

Away from the relays, Palmyra got solid distance work from Amber McCurdy, who finished 10th in the 1600m in 5:32.65 and 12th in the 800m in 2:31.79, while Chelsea Herr added a 16th-place finish in the 800m in 2:34.39. Olivia Yorty was 16th in the 1600m in 5:54.41, and Jericho Church won the girls novice 3200m in 12:42.13.

In the field events, Shayla Carl placed 13th in the Javelin with a throw of 94’8″, while Isabella Owens finished 16th in the Long Jump at 14’2.25″ and 17th in the Triple Jump at 31’9.5″. Caleigha Mull and Helena Baker both competed in the High Jump, and Mackenzie Schopp added a Shot Put mark of 24’0.25″.

Boys Recap

Palmyra’s boys were led by their distance group, which produced the county’s top boys finish of the day. The Cougars’ 4×800 relay of Nathan Keiner, Landyn Rose, Josh Miller, and Cornelius Cummings earned silver in 8:23.82, while Cornelius Cummings and Josh Miller both medaled in the 1600m. Cummings placed 5th in 4:36.79 and Miller followed in 8th at 4:40.35.

Palmyra added more sprint medals through Travis McDannell, who made the 100m final and placed 7th in 11.24 after running 11.25 in the prelims. He also finished 9th in the 200m in 22.89, just outside medal position. The Cougars’ 4×100 relay of Chris Campisano, Connor Anderson, Aaron Villafane, and Travis McDannell added another medal with a 5th-place finish in 44.58.

In the throws, Josh Tshudy placed 8th in the Discus with a toss of 132’0″ to earn another medal, while Jake Schelhornwas 19th in the Javelin at 134’8″ and 27th in the Discus at 110’9″. Dacian Hutchinson turned in hurdle efforts of 17.98 in the 110m hurdle prelims and 45.66 in the 300m Hurdles, and Evan Mosser cleared 5’8″ in the High Jump.

ELCO’s boys also reached the podium in the 4×800 relay, where Cole Doster, Cru Frederick, Max Frederick, and Ben Macchione placed 4th in 8:45.25.
