Shaak, Ferrer, Hershey Lead Lebanon at Jeff Bradley Invitational
Saturday’s 22nd annual Jeff Bradley Invitational — formerly known as the Black Knight Invitational — brought a sunny afternoon to Hempfield after a cool start to the day, with temperatures warming into the mid-60s after a cool morning. The meet also drew a huge representation from the Lancaster-Lebanon League, aided by the fact that Hempfield will also host the league championship meet in May. The Lebanon Cedars were among the teams who made the trip to Landisville.
With the top 8 finishers in each event earning medals, Lebanon’s top performers made their mark against one of the deepest fields of the young season. Cayleigh Shaak led the way with a runner-up finish in the girls Long Jump (2nd, 17’3″), while Eddie Ferrer double-medaled for the boys in the High Jump (t-8th, 5’10”) and Triple Jump (5th, 41’7″). Samuel Hershey also earned a medal in the boys 1600m (8th, 4:36.26) and added another strong distance effort in the 800m (10th, 2:05.06). Lebanon’s girls finished tied for 17th in the team standings with 8 points, while the boys tied for 16th with 6 points.
Girls Recap
Lebanon’s top girls performance came from Cayleigh Shaak, who claimed a medal with her 2nd-place finish in the Long Jump (17’3″), giving the Cedars their highest finish of the day. Olive Brandt also contributed in multiple events, placing 18th in the 300m Hurdles (53.55), 22nd in the Triple Jump (29’4″), and 25th in the Long Jump (14’9.25″). In the throws, Nina Lampkin paced the Cedars with a 16th-place finish in the Shot Put (29’7″) and a 19th-place mark in the Discus (80’10”). Nevaeh Delapaz added efforts in both the Discus (33rd, 69’6″) and Javelin (32nd, 50’5″), and Franyelis Rodriguez also doubled back in the Discus (37th, 59’3″) and Javelin (33rd, 46’6″).
