ELCO Sweeps Lancaster Catholic, Girls Stay Unbeaten
ELCO made it a clean sweep on Wednesday, going on the road to Lancaster Catholic and coming away with wins in both sides of an L-L League dual meet before the Raiders turn their attention to this weekend’s invitational action.
The ELCO girls improved to 3-0 with a 98-52 victory, while the Raiders’ boys moved to 2-1 by topping Lancaster Catholic 81-69.
Girls Recap: ELCO 98, Lancaster Catholic 52
The ELCO girls put together a balanced effort that showed up all over the lineup. Maddie Nelson led the way with victories in the 100m and 300m hurdles, while also running on the winning 4x100m relay team. The Raiders also got sprint wins from Taylor Everhart in the 400m, Ava Stewart in the long jump and Shea Adewale in the high jump.
ELCO’s field events gave the Raiders a major edge. Julia Wenger won the discus, Kenzie Eckhart claimed the shot put, Alexa Shanaman took first in the javelin, and ELCO swept the top three spots in both the discus and triple jump. The Raiders also went one-two in the javelin, with Claire Jacoby finishing right behind Shanaman.
The hurdles and jumps added even more points for ELCO. Bre Etherson won the 100m hurdles, Addison Mays was runner-up in both the 100m hurdles and long jump, and Keirra Sholl captured the triple jump. ELCO also took the 4x100m relay and 4x800m relay to help put the meet away.
Lancaster Catholic’s top efforts came from Miriam Stefanow, who won the 200m and ran on the Crusaders’ winning 4x400m relay, while Sara Propst picked up a win in the pole vault. Caitlin Reynolds also delivered a strong distance day for Lancaster Catholic with victories in the 1600m and 3200m after Pequea Valley finishers were removed from the dual-meet placings.

Boys Recap: ELCO 81, Lancaster Catholic 69
The ELCO boys had to work harder for their win, but the Raiders got enough key performances across the meet to secure the 12-point decision. Max Frederick and Cru Frederick gave ELCO a huge lift in the distance events, finishing one-two in the 3200m and then going two-three in the 1600m. ELCO also won the 4x800m relay, which added to that distance advantage.
The Raiders were also strong in the field. Avery Kurtz swept the throws by winning both the shot put and discus, Samuel Keener won the pole vault, Kaden Tillison took first in the high jump, and Mason Yoder won both the long jump and finished second in the 300m hurdles. ELCO also swept the top three spots in the triple jump, with Jacob Kuhne, John Gass, and Henry Radel leading the way.
Lancaster Catholic did much of its damage on the track. Brandon Way won the 100m, Christopher Baumler took the 200m, Andrew Moore won the 800m, and Julian Montalvo-Melendez swept the hurdles. The Crusaders also won both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, while EJ Torres added a victory in the javelin.
Even with Lancaster Catholic’s sprint strength, ELCO had enough event depth to take control in the jumps, throws, and distance races. That combination helped the Raiders secure their second boys win of the young season.
