Northern Lebanon Rallies Past Upper Dauphin to Finish Suspended Game
A day after picking up a thrilling come-from-behind win over Section 3 rival Donegal, Northern Lebanon traveled to Upper Dauphin on Thursday to finish a game the two teams had started nearly 2 weeks earlier before it was suspended by rain. At the time, the Vikings were trailing 5-3 in the 2nd inning.
When play resumed, Northern Lebanon still had work to do. Upper Dauphin added another run in the bottom of the 2nd on a single down the left field line by #15, stretching the Trojans’ lead to 6-3 and putting the Vikings in an even deeper hole.
Upper Dauphin had built that early cushion in the bottom of the 1st. A walk to #19 forced in a run, another bases-loaded walk to #99 brought in one more, #2 followed with a run-scoring walk, and an error helped 2 additional runs cross the plate as the Trojans surged ahead.
But Northern Lebanon slowly chipped away, then delivered the biggest swing of the day in the 4th. Stephanie Palkoviccrushed a 3-run homer to left field, and another Upper Dauphin error allowed a run to score as the Vikings flipped the game and moved in front.
That moment changed everything.
Palkovic finished with a huge day at the plate, going 3-5 with a home run, a double, and 3 RBI. She doubled in the 2nd, homered in the 4th, and later added a single as part of a strong all-around offensive effort. Addison Kubica and Ryleigh Hopkins each collected multiple hits, while Hopkins also stole 2 bases as Northern Lebanon continued to pressure the Trojans.
In the circle, Sophia Roye went all 7 innings for the Vikings. She allowed 6 hits and 8 runs, 4 earned, while striking out 7 and walking 6. Northern Lebanon also turned a double play behind her in a game that featured pressure on both sides.
Upper Dauphin got 2 hits apiece from #28 and #15, while #99 led the Trojans with 2 RBI. The hosts also showed patience at the plate with 6 walks and turned a double play of their own.
Northern Lebanon finished with 10 hits and showed plenty of resilience after trailing by as many as 5 runs. It was another comeback effort for a Vikings team that has already shown a knack for responding when challenged.
Northern Lebanon is 5-1. They will return to their regularly scheduled program when they host Garden Spot on Monday.
