Lampeter-Strasburg Uses Early Edge to Hold Off Northern Lebanon’s Late Rally

On Friday, Northern Lebanon hosted Lampeter-Strasburg in a non-league matchup, taking on a formidable opponent in the Class 5A Pioneers, who entered the day at 6-3. The Vikings hung around throughout, but Lampeter-Strasburg did enough early and added insurance late to leave Fredericksburg with a 4-2 win.

Lampeter-Strasburg grabbed the lead right away in the top of the 1st. Jillian Groff singled in a run to put the Pioneers in front, and Northern Lebanon spent much of the afternoon trying to chip away. In the circle, Addison Hollenbach kept the Vikings within striking distance, going all seven innings while allowing eight hits and four runs, three earned, with six strikeouts and two walks.

The Pioneers added another run in the 5th before tacking on two more in the 7th to create some separation. Northern Lebanon did answer in the bottom of the 7th, with Stephanie Palkovic and Ryleigh Hopkins each driving in a run, but the Vikings could not fully erase the deficit. Northern Lebanon finished with seven hits in the game, with Palkovic collecting two of them. Hopkins added a triple and scored a run, while Addison Hollenbach, Alyssa Shirey, Mykenah Johnson, and Keira Palski each contributed a hit.

Northern Lebanon also turned a double play and continued to show some fight against a quality opponent. Palkovic and Hopkins, hitting back-to-back in the lineup, provided the two RBI for the Vikings. For Lampeter-Strasburg, Lucy Boyd drove in two runs, while Paige Baxter scored three times and added an RBI. Isabelle King and Lilly Kuhns each doubled, and Natalie Hill went the distance in the circle, allowing two runs on seven hits.

Northern Lebanon is now 7-2. They will look to bounce back when they return to action on Monday with a road trip to face Section 3 opponent Cocalico.
