Deeks Fires No-Hitter in ELCO Win Over Cocalico

The Raiders have been clicking on all cylinders, putting up incredible numbers over the past several games on their way to a 7-1 start. In fact, ELCO had scored 10 or more runs in each of its 7 victories entering Wednesday. That trend continued in the Section 3 opener, as the Raiders went on the road and rolled past Cocalico 15-0 in 4 innings for win number 8.

ELCO wasted little time getting started in the top of the 1st. Kylie Cruz singled to center to bring home the game’s first run, Justine Geyer followed with an RBI double to center, and Kenzie Deeks added another run-scoring single as the Raiders quickly jumped in front 3-0.

The Raiders kept the pressure on in the 2nd, putting together another big inning. Cruz singled in a run, Chloe Shirkfollowed with an RBI single, Mallorie Bossler worked a bases-loaded walk, and Layla Werner came through with a 2-run single to push the lead to 8-0.

ELCO added 4 more runs in the 3rd. Deeks singled in a run, Bossler doubled home 2 more, and Werner added another RBI single as the Raiders continued to pile up runs and put the game out of reach.

The Raiders closed the scoring with 3 more runs in the 4th, completing another complete offensive showing from top to bottom. ELCO finished with 15 hits and 7 walks, continuing the kind of balanced attack that has fueled one of the hottest starts in the area.

Deeks led the way at the plate by going 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, while Werner also collected 3 hits and drove in 3 runs. Bossler finished with 3 RBI, and Cruz, Geyer, and Shirk each added multi-hit games. Cruz and Emma Fisher paced the Raiders with 2 walks apiece.

In the circle, Deeks was dominant. She tossed a 4-inning no-hitter, striking out 7 and walking 3 to keep Cocalico off the board from start to finish.

Cocalico turned a double play in the field, but the Raiders’ offensive pressure never really let up. Taylor Haldeman took the loss for the Eagles after working all 4 innings.

ELCO is now 8-1 and will now have off until Monday, when the Raiders host Donegal in a major showdown.
