Cedar Crest Boys Stay Unbeaten, Falcons Split Section 1 Meet at Ephrata

With temperatures in the 60s and a steady wind blowing across the facility, Cedar Crest and Ephrata competed in what could still be considered a beautiful spring day for a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 dual meet on Monday.

By the end of it, the Falcons came away with a split, as the Cedar Crest boys earned a 92.5-57.5 victory to improve to 2-0, while the Falcon girls fell to the Mounts 89-61 to move to 1-1.

Girls Recap: Ephrata 89, Cedar Crest 61

Cedar Crest’s girls still produced a number of standout efforts despite coming up short in the team scoring. Ellie Schneider turned in one of the Falcons’ top all-around performances, winning the 800m, high jump, and javelin while helping Cedar Crest stay in the mix across multiple phases of the meet.

The Falcons also got a strong sprint day from Miley Bowers, who won both the 100m and 200m. Makenzie Wamsher added two more 1st-place finishes by taking the 1600m and 300m hurdles, while Cedar Crest’s 4x100m relay team also posted a victory.

Cedar Crest picked up another field-event win from Ryan Stopper in the long jump. The Falcons also scored key points through their depth, including strong finishes from Clara Schneider, Jordan Frip, Mikalyn Weaber, Olivia Cuthie, Annika Rosenburg, and Nachali Manon Aquino.

Ephrata’s depth ultimately made the difference in the team score. The Mounts were especially strong in the relays and throws, with Sophia Rivera sweeping both the discus and shot put while Ephrata also claimed wins in the 4x800m relay, 4x400m relay, triple jump, and pole vault.

Boys Recap: Cedar Crest 92.5, Ephrata 57.5

Cedar Crest’s boys controlled the meet with a balanced performance that featured victories in the distance events, sprints, relays, and throws. Travis Furmanski led the way with a pair of wins, taking 1st in both the 1600m and 3200m.

The Falcons also got a huge lift from their distance group elsewhere. Zach Margut won the 800m and placed 2nd in the 1600m, while Cedar Crest’s 4x800m relay team of Hayden Snavely, Gatto, Wolfe, and Bryce Wampler opened the meet with a victory.

In the sprint events, Landen Weaber won the 200m, placed 2nd in the 100m, and ran on Cedar Crest’s winning 4x100m relay team. Bryce Wampler added another 1st-place finish in the 400m, while the 4x100m relay quartet of Tanner Zimmerman, Scott, Cameron Tirado, and Weaber gave the Falcons another win.

Cedar Crest also did significant damage in the field events. Cameron Tirado won the high jump, Tanner Zimmerman captured the discus, and Caleb Fox finished 1st in the shot put. Max Fleischer added valuable points with runner-up finishes in both the triple jump and javelin, while Owen Popejoy scored in both throwing events and Nolan Lingle added points in the triple jump as the Falcons piled up enough points across the board to secure the win.

Ephrata got a big day from Hunter Young, who won the 100m, long jump, and pole vault, while Ryder Newlin swept both hurdle races. But Cedar Crest’s depth and balance allowed the Falcons to steadily separate in the team scoring.
