Northern Lebanon Breaks It Open With 8-Run 4th in 10-4 Season-Opening Win
Northern Lebanon opened its season with a strong showing Thursday, breaking open a tight game with an eight-run 4th inning to roll past Twin Valley 10-4 and move to 1-0.
The Vikings scored twice in the 1st to take an early lead, getting runs home on an Addison Hollenbach sacrifice fly and an Addison Kubica walk. That gave Northern Lebanon an early cushion, but the game remained within reach before the Vikings delivered their biggest blow in the 4th.
Northern Lebanon put the game away with a decisive offensive burst in that inning. Stephanie Palkovic launched a solo homer to left, and Ryleigh Hopkins delivered a 2-RBI single during the rally as the Vikings turned a close contest into a comfortable win. The inning showed Northern Lebanon’s ability to string together quality at-bats and cash in once traffic started to build.
Hopkins led the Vikings offense, finishing 1-for-2 with 1 run, 2 RBI, a walk, and 2 stolen bases. Mykenah Johnson went 2-for-2 with 1 run and a stolen base, while Palkovic finished 1-for-2 with a homer, 1 run, and 1 RBI. Northern Lebanon also got early production from Hollenbach and Kubica, who each helped bring in runs in the 1st.
The Vikings were aggressive throughout, swiping 4 bases as a team and consistently creating pressure once they reached base. Northern Lebanon also backed up its offense with a clean defensive effort, finishing the game without an error.
Hollenbach starred in the circle, working 4 innings without allowing a hit. She struck out 8 and walked 2, keeping Twin Valley from finding any rhythm and giving Northern Lebanon the type of steady outing it needed while the offense took control.
With the win in its season opener, Northern Lebanon is 1-0 and will be back in action Friday at Upper Dauphin Area.
