Lebanon Falls in Heartbreaker as Cocalico Hits Walk Off

Lebanon battled throughout Tuesday’s back-and-forth contest on the road, but the game ended in heartbreak as Cocalico scored on a walk-off in the bottom of the 7th inning to hand the Cedars a 12-11 defeat.

The game was tied at 11 entering the final half inning before Cocalico pushed across the winning run on a fielder’s choice. Even in defeat, Lebanon showed plenty offensively, collecting nine hits and continuing to respond after falling behind early.

Cocalico jumped out quickly in the bottom of the 1st inning, taking advantage of a pair of Lebanon errors while also getting a two-run single from Taylor Haldeman. The Eagles built a 5-0 lead before the Cedars began to chip away.

Lebanon’s biggest response came in the top of the 3rd, when it scored five runs on three hits to flip the game and move in front 9-5. Athena Griffiths delivered the biggest hit of the inning with a two-run single, helping the Cedars seize the momentum.

The game continued to swing from there, with both teams trading offense in a high-scoring affair. Cocalico eventually pulled even in the bottom of the 5th when Briella Wilson delivered an RBI single to tie the score at 11.

At the plate, Griffiths led Lebanon by going 2-for-3 with a run scored and four RBIs. Janieya De Jesus and Aubri Pisano each added two hits, while Makenzie Swisher drove in three runs. Layla Mailloux also helped the cause offensively with a hit, a run scored, and two RBIs. Lebanon showed patience throughout the lineup, drawing eight walks in the game, including two by Tatiana Franco.

Cocalico matched Lebanon with nine hits and also applied pressure on the bases. Haldeman finished with three RBIs, while Ava Shenk and Lydia Knepper each collected two hits. Sophia Weaver and Knepper each stole multiple bases as the Eagles piled up six stolen bases in the contest.

On the mound, Mailloux worked 6.1 innings for Lebanon, allowing nine hits and 12 runs, though only two of those runs were earned, while striking out six and walking five. Macy Welker earned the win for Cocalico after going the distance.

Lebanon fell to 0-3 with the loss and is set to face Annville-Cleona on Wednesday.
