Down Early, ELCO Explodes For 15 Runs to Defeat Conrad Weiser
ELCO erased an early five-run deficit and pulled away for a 15-6 win over Conrad Weiser on Friday, using two big innings to turn the game around. In the end, the Raiders ended the game in just five innings.
Conrad Weiser grabbed control early, scoring 3 runs in the first and 2 more in the second to build a 5-0 lead. ELCO answered in the fourth, erupting for 7 runs on 6 hits to move in front 7-5. The biggest swing of the inning came from Vanessa Szerba, who delivered a single that produced in 4 runs due to fielding errors that kept the runners moving.
ELCO added more separation in the fifth with an 8-run frame. Szerba and Kylie Cruz each singled home a run, Chloe Shirk drew a bases-loaded walk, and Justine Geyer ripped a 2-run double. ELCO also capitalized on an error that brought home 3 more runs during the inning.
ELCO finished with 14 hits. Geyer went 4-for-4 to lead the offense, while Szerba and Shirk each drove in 3 runs. Makayla Noll and Cruz also had multi-hit games, and Kenzie Deeks reached base three times via walk as ELCO continued to apply pressure throughout the lineup.
In the circle, Deeks earned the win after working 5 innings. She allowed 6 runs, only 2 earned, on 4 hits while striking out 6 and walking 5.
Conrad Weiser’s Madison Derfler had 2 hits and 2 RBI, while Payton Kramlich also drove in 2 runs for the Scouts.
ELCO (2-0) will host Annville-Cleona on Monday.
