ELCO rolls past Pequea Valley behind big bats, strong start from Deeks

ELCO opened Thursday’s action with an impressive offensive showing, rolling to a 17-3 win over Pequea Valley. The Raiders piled up 17 hits and got a strong effort in the circle from Kenzie Deeks to help secure the mercy-ruled victory in 5 innings of play.

The Raiders set the tone early, scoring three runs in the 1st inning. Abigail Ruth delivered an RBI single, while Deeksfollowed with a double that brought in two more runs to give ELCO an early cushion.

ELCO added four more runs in the 2nd inning to stretch the lead to 7-0, with Chloe Shirk providing the big blow on a home run. The Raiders continued to add on from there, scoring in the 3rd inning and again breaking things open in the 5th inning.

Shirk led the offensive effort with a perfect 4-for-4 day that included a three-run home run, 4 runs scored, and 3 RBIs. Ruth finished 2-for-4 with 1 run scored and 3 RBIs, while Deeks went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a walk. Makayla Noll added a 2-for-4 day with 2 runs scored and an RBI, and Justine Geyer finished 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored, an RBI, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Mallorie Bossler also homered and drove in 2 runs for the Raiders.

In the circle, Deeks earned the win after working 5 innings. She allowed 4 hits, 3 runs, and 2 earned runs while striking out 8 and walking 2.

ELCO (1-0) is back in action Friday at Conrad Weiser.
