Cedar Crest Bounces Back with 11-1 Road Win at Cocalico
After suffering a tough loss to Conestoga Valley on Tuesday, Cedar Crest had a quick chance to respond on Wednesday and made the most of it, rolling to an 11-1 road win over Cocalico in a game that would only last five innings.
The Falcons wasted little time getting going offensively. Ava Rosario opened the scoring in the top of the 1st with a single that brought home two runs, giving Cedar Crest an early edge.
The lead grew in the 2nd inning when Jackie Funderburk delivered a two-run triple. Later in the frame, Mia Lutz added an RBI single as the Falcons continued to build momentum.
Cedar Crest broke things open in the 3rd. Angie Orosco brought in a run on a fielder’s choice, another run scored on an error, and Elli Malinoski capped the surge with a two-run double to help the Falcons take firm control.
The Falcons added the finishing touches in the 5th inning. With Cedar Crest looking to put the game away, Malinoski came through again with an RBI single that scored Ali Groff and pushed the Falcons’ lead to 11-1, giving Crest the 10-run cushion it needed to close out the victory.
In the circle, Addison Nolen turned in a steady outing for Cedar Crest. Nolen worked all five innings, allowing six hits and one unearned run while walking two. She threw 69 pitches, including 50 strikes, and faced 24 batters in the win.
Malinoski led the Falcons with three RBIs while going 2-for-4 at the plate. Lutz and Nolen also collected two hits apiece, while Cedar Crest showed patience throughout the lineup by drawing six walks. Ali Groff paced that effort with two free passes and scored three runs.
Cocalico got two hits from Sydney Leasure, while Macy Welker, Sophia Weaver, Taylor Haldeman, and Chloe Lesher also contributed hits for the Eagles. Haldeman took the loss after allowing nine runs, four of them earned, over three innings. Welker worked the final two innings in relief.
With the bounce-back win, Cedar Crest improved to 3-1 and is now slated to travel to face Bishop McDevitt on Friday.
