Cedar Crest Outlasts Warwick in 5 Sets for First League Win

In their LL Section 1 opener, Cedar Crest picked up a hard-fought 3-2 road win over Warwick on Thursday evening in Lititz. The Falcons prevailed with the scores of each set being 21-25, 26-24, 25-21, 24-26, and 15-9.

After dropping the first set, the Falcons responded in a tight 2nd set and evened the match with a 26-24 win. Cedar Crest then carried that momentum into the 3rd set to move within one set of the victory.

Warwick answered in the 4th to force a deciding 5th, but Cedar Crest closed strong in the final set, pulling away for a 15-9 win to secure its first league victory of the season.

Niko Kotay led the Falcons with 16 kills and 6 blocks. Matthew Spragg added 2 aces and 20 digs, while Matthew Peelen finished with 2 aces and 22 assists.

Following the match, Cedar Crest head coach Monica Sheaffer praised her team’s effort in a big early-season test.

“Warwick is a good team, and we knew we had to battle being our first league game,” Sheaffer said. “It was a fun match and I’m looking forward to our games to come.”

With the win, Cedar Crest improved to 3-1 on the season. The Falcons will look to continue having  fun when they return home Tuesday to host Penn Manor.
