Martin’s Go-Ahead Double Sends ELCO Past Conrad Weiser in Rain-Shortened Opener
ELCO opened its 2026 baseball season on Friday with a 6-3 victory over Conrad Weiser in a game that was shortened to five innings because of rain.
The Raiders wasted little time getting on the board. In the bottom of the 1st, Wyatt Parker delivered a sacrifice fly to score the game’s first run and give ELCO an early 1-0 lead. The Raiders added another in the 2nd when Queston Riveralifted a sacrifice fly, stretching the advantage to 2-0.
Conrad Weiser answered in the top of the 3rd, using a walk and a key hit to push across three runs and move in front 3-2. But ELCO responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning. Zach Martin came through with a clutch two-run double that swung the lead back to the Raiders at 4-3.
From there, ELCO continued to pressure Conrad Weiser with patient at-bats and aggressive baserunning. The Raiders drew eight walks in the game and stole four bases, with Tanner Hibshman swiping two of them. ELCO also played a clean game defensively, finishing without an error. Isaac Tanger led the way in the field with nine chances.
On the mound, Austin Smith gave ELCO a strong season-opening effort. Smith worked all 5 innings, allowing 3 hits and 3 runs while striking out 9 and walking 3. He also helped himself offensively by drawing two walks as part of a steady Raiders attack.
Martin, hitting out of the No. 8 spot in the lineup, drove in two runs with his go-ahead double. Braden Gettle paced ELCO with two hits, while Tyce Boyer reached base three times and scored a run.
ELCO (1-0) will travel to Annville-Cleona on Monday for a clash of the two LebCo teams.
