On Saturday, Palmyra wrapped up competition in the Mid-Penn Conference Swim Championships, an event held at Cumberland Valley High School — and the Cougars put together a strong performance that resulted in seven individual medals and two relay medals.
The top individual results for Palmyra came from senior Sam Gladysz, who earned two bronze medals by taking 3rd in the boys 50 freestyle (21.49) and 3rd again in the boys 100 butterfly (51.39). Senior Cornelius Cummings also delivered a strong two-medal meet, placing 5th in the boys 200 freestyle (1:45.77) and 5th in the boys 100 freestyle (48.84). Junior John Yerke added two top-8 finishes with a 7th in the boys 200 IM (2:00.28) and 7th in the boys 100 backstroke (56.06).
On the girls side, junior Eleanor Brower led the way with a 5th-place medal in the 100 butterfly (1:01.35).
Palmyra’s depth showed up especially in the relays, where the Cougars finished 4th in both the 200 freestyle relay (1:28.60) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.82) — with the same core quartet of Cummings, Yerke, Dalton Cole, and Gladysz powering both finishes.
Palmyra finished 6th in the boys team standings, with Cumberland Valley claiming the overall title. On the girls side, the Cougars placed 14th, while State College won the team championship.
Next up in the swimming postseason is the District 3 Championship Meet that will take place beginning February 27th.
