New Covenant Girls Basketball Season Outlook
New Covenant enters the 2025–26 season looking to build on a historic 2024–25 campaign, in which the Flames overcame the challenges of having a small roster to shock everyone by making their first-ever District 3 Championship game, while also qualifying for the PIAA State Championship Tournament.
The program’s only significant loss to graduation is Miracle Hershey, a versatile defender and vocal leader who brought speed and energy to the team. Filling her production and leadership will be a key focus.
Leading the returning group of veterans will junior Qynne Demler, who surpassed 1,000 career points last season and earned 1st Team All-County honors. She will look to continue her hot hand and serve as the offensive engine for the Flames.
Joining Demler are juniors Adrianna Yeagley (who is back following missing last season due to a knee injury) and Moriah Simniskis, along with sophomores Alayna Zimmerman and Sherlymar Candenedo, all of whom provide speed, transition scoring, and experience.
Freshmen McKenna Kantner, Mahaley Gehman, and Laura Bello are expected to contribute immediately and help shoulder responsibilities on both ends of the floor.
Many of the girls were also part of the New Covenant Girls Soccer Team that repeated as CCAC Champions in October, demonstrating their athleticism and competitiveness across multiple sports. Unfortunately, they will be entering the season without senior Akaiya Hershey, who sustained an injury during the soccer season and will be sidelined during basketball.
With an active roster of just eight players, every athlete will play a key role, making health, effort, and consistency essential. The Flames will focus on skill development, mental toughness, and maintaining a fast-paced style of play. Building on last year’s historic postseason run, New Covenant aims to make another deep playoff push and continue bringing excitement to their small school community.
