Kylee Trostle

ELCO junior Kylee Trostle wasted no time announcing herself as one of the top wrestlers in the state. Competing at the prestigious Escape the Rock Tournament at North Penn High School on December 13th and 14th, Trostle placed third at 118 pounds, going 5–1 on the day with four pins. Her strong showing against elite competition established her early as a contender in her weight class, an accomplishment that earned her recognition as LebCo Athlete of the Week.

Trostle credited her performance to the work she put in long before the season began. “Putting in all my effort and hours over the summer and leading up to the season really helped prepare me,” she said. That preparation was evident throughout the tournament, as she wrestled with confidence and control against some of the best competition Pennsylvania has to offer.

Her goal for the season is simple but driven. “I want to do better than I did last year,” Trostle said. That’s no small task considering her résumé. Last season, she qualified for the PIAA State Championships for the second straight year, an accomplishment made even more impressive given that girls wrestling has only been a PIAA-sanctioned sport for two years. As a freshman, Trostle finished 6th in the state, while a podium finish narrowly eluded her as a sophomore despite an opening-round win.

A true trailblazer, Trostle spent her freshman season wrestling alongside the ELCO boys team before helping lead the ELCO Girls Wrestling Team to the inaugural Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 Championship last year. This season, she continues to embrace her role as both a competitor and a leader. “I try to share my technique and knowledge with my teammates so we can all continue to improve,” she said.

Wrestling success runs in the family. Her older brother, Zane Trostle, recorded more than 100 career wins in high school and currently wrestles at York College, providing both inspiration and guidance along the way.

Trostle is also quick to acknowledge the people who have supported her journey. In addition to her brother, she credits Coach Artie and Coach Ben for helping her stay focused and motivated. She also overcame adversity at the end of last season, working through a health issue that she has since resolved. “I’ve gotten that figured out and feel like I’ve come back better this season,” she said.

At the core of her passion for athletics is the challenge it brings. “I enjoy the challenge and making new friends,” Trostle said. Outside the wrestling room, she continues to seek challenges, spending time at the gym, with family, or skimboarding when she gets the chance. Long term, she hopes to wrestle in college and pursue a career as a NICU nurse.

Congratulations to Kylee on being named LebCo Athlete of the Week, and best of luck as she continues to build on a strong start to the season and chase her goals on the mat.
