Claire Jacoby

During the week of September 29th, ELCO senior goalkeeper Claire Jacoby once again proved why she’s among the top keepers in District 3. The veteran leader in goal was a wall for the Raiders, posting shutouts in victories over Pequea Valley and Conrad Weiser. Those performances pushed her season total to nine shutouts while helping ELCO continue its surge toward the postseason with one of the best records in the district. Her impressive play and consistency earned her recognition as the LebCo Athlete of the Week.

Jacoby’s steady presence in net and leadership behind the defense have been key to the Raiders’ success this fall. Reflecting on her role in the team’s success, she said, “Our team has done a good job of winning, and I’ve helped to keep the score low.”

A multi-sport athlete who also competes in winter and spring track, Jacoby continues to raise her level each year. Her goal this season is to surpass her shutout total from last year, a challenge that she’s well on her way to achieving. That said, she has had a tremendous varsity career thus far, having earned Second Team All-Star honors as a sophomore and First Team All-Star recognition last season.

Jacoby credits her success to the people who have supported her along the way — including her parents, teammates, and assistant coaches Emma Strickler and Amy Thome — as well as the culture of excellence surrounding ELCO soccer. Additionally, she may have her father to thank for some of her athletic ability, as he swam collegiately at Shippensburg University.

When she’s not training, Jacoby stays active by helping with RaiderThon and Interact Club, or spending time with friends and family. Off the field, she has her sights set on a future in nursing, a field where her drive and focus will no doubt serve her well.

Last week, Jacoby and the Raiders added three more wins, including yet another shutout, to improve to 14–2 on the season, having allowed just nine goals all year. They now look to finish up the regular season while preparing for a deep postseason run.

Congratulations to Claire and best of luck to her and the Raiders as they look to play as many games as possible before the season comes to an end.
