Travis Furmanski

During the week of September 29th, Cedar Crest senior Travis Furmanski added another milestone to his already remarkable running career by capturing the Paul Short Invitational title at Lehigh University. Competing against nearly 1,100 runners across three divisions, Furmanski posted a winning time of 14:53.8, which not only secured the victory but also stood as the fastest overall time at the prestigious event. The effort marked a 55-second personal best and further solidified his place among Pennsylvania’s elite high school runners — earning him recognition as the LebCoSports.com Athlete of the Week.

Furmanski’s performance at Lehigh is another step in a senior season that has him well on his way to becoming a local legend in the running community. His goals for the remainder of the fall include winning Lancaster-Lebanon League and District 3 titles — both individually and as a team — while also pursuing a top-three finish at the PIAA State Championships. Beyond that, he has his sights set on qualifying for Nike or Brooks Nationals, where he hopes to showcase his talent on a national stage.

As a senior leader, Travis sets the pace for his teammates through his focus and example. “I lead the way for our team as we try to go after league and district championships,” he said, noting that his success wouldn’t be possible without the people who have pushed him to improve. “My coaches push me to be better every day.”

Cedar Crest Cross Country coach Brandon Risser praised his standout runner, saying, “Travis is a tough competitor who has earned everything that he has achieved in this sport. His development into an elite Cross Country performer has been a highlight of my coaching journey and an inspiration to his teammates.”

In addition to his cross country success, Furmanski excels on the track — placing seventh in the 3200m at last spring’s PIAA State Championships — and plans to continue his athletic career in college while pursuing a degree in business or engineering.

Outside of running, Travis stays active with 4-H and FFA animals and enjoys hunting in his free time

For Travis, the sport’s rewards go well beyond medals and finish times. “The friendships made through sports,” he said, are what make the journey most meaningful.

Congratulations to Travis! Best of luck to him and the Falcons as they compete at Tuesday’s Lancaster-Lebanon League Cross Country Championship Meet and beyond! Without a doubt, based on what he’s achieved so far, Travis will be considered a Legend in local circles, it just a matter of how much he adds to his resume that will make the difference.
