Lebanon Football Season Outlook
The Lebanon Cedars will take the field in 2025 still searching for their first win since 2020. Their 42-game losing streak looms large, but inside the program, the focus is not on the past—it’s on resilience, growth, and changing the culture.
The Cedars faced another setback in the offseason when head coach Tyler Pritchett departed after just one year at the helm. The late-spring timing of his exit created further challenges, but rather than dwell on circumstances, Lebanon turned inward. Offensive coordinator Brett Sylve, a Louisiana native and Kentucky State alum, was elevated to interim head coach and tasked with steadying the program.
Despite being young, Sylve has already earned the respect of his players. His vision is simple: fundamentals first.
“We want to continue to get better each week,” Sylve told LebCoSports.com. “When it comes to winning games, we have to continue building better football players. This begins with fundamentals. We want to continue improving and change the culture.”
On the field, the Cedars have a foundation in place, particularly with the return of senior wide receiver Malachi Briddell, one of the most dynamic playmakers in the Lancaster-Lebanon League. Briddell hauled in 910 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns last fall, and he has his eyes set on surpassing 1,000 yards this season—even as the Cedars adjust to a new quarterback following the graduation of Brandyn Castro.
Briddell won’t be alone in carrying the offensive load. His teammates have rallied behind senior Cameron Buchmoyer, a versatile athlete known for leaving everything on the field. A dominant linebacker, Buchmoyer is expected to provide a spark on offense as well, shifting from tight end to running back to help jumpstart a rushing attack that struggled a year ago.
Up front, the Cedars are counting on improved line play to open opportunities. Senior Elis Bentez will anchor the offensive line with his leadership and grit, giving the unit both stability and direction.
Sylve knows that the Cedars’ path to progress starts with mastering the basics. “We’re going to keep everything simple this year,” he said, emphasizing the need for players to focus on core skills before expanding schemes.
This back-to-basics approach is designed to put players in position to succeed while gradually building confidence and consistency.
The Cedars’ resilience will be tested further by the loss of their home field. Alumni Stadium is unavailable this season due to ongoing issues, leaving Lebanon to play three “home” games at other schools—including their opener at Northern Lebanon and another at Annville-Cleona.
While outsiders may focus on the streak, inside the locker room, the Cedars are determined to prove themselves. Briddell wants everyone to understand: “We’re trying our hardest and busting our butts.”
Sylve believes that mindset is what will define his first season as head coach. “I’ve got guys that are coming out, fighting for a common goal,” he said. “We’re always looking to prove somebody wrong.”
The Cedars enter 2025 with questions but also with hope. For Sylve, this season is full of firsts. While the ultimate goal, whether one of those firsts includes a long-awaited victory remains to be seen.
Bentez summed it up best when he stated: “What we have right now is potential,”
That potential will be put to the test beginning Friday night when Lebanon hosts the Palmyra Cougars at Northern Lebanon.
