ELCO 11, Conestoga Valley 8

A leadoff homerun by Gabby Smith gave ELCO an advantage but also set the tone for the Raider bats in their first game of the season. After giving up 3 runs in the Bottom 1st to fall behind 3-2, ELCO put up 6 runs over the next two innings. Conestoga Valley made a late run, scoring 4 runs in their final at-bat, but fell short.

Smith finished the game going 3-4 with 1 RBI & 2 runs scored while hitting the HR & 2 doubles. Abby Ruth added a two-run home run in the 6th inning as part of a great day that reads 3-3, 3 RBI, BB, SB in the box score. Morgan Wilson also had 3 hits, going 3-5 with 2 RBI and a double. As a team, ELCO had 15 hits.

Abby Hassler started the game and was awarded the win after pitching 4 innings and giving up 3 runs (1 ER). She collected 3 Ks.

Smith finished the game, pitching the final 3 innings and giving up 5 runs (4 ER). ELCO all-time career strikeout leader had 8 Ks.

ELCO (1-0) will host Tulpehocken on Saturday.

Muhlenberg 12, Palmyra 1  (F/4)

Layla Musser had a hit and an RBI to give the Cougars a run in the 1st inning, but that was unfortunately all the offensive action that Palmyra would find against the Muhls. To their credit, Palmyra remained aggressive on the basepaths with Musser stealing a base and Emalyn Funk & Emerson Gingrich each swiping two.

Palmyra (0-1) will host E-Town on Monday.
