Elizabethtown 66, Lebanon 56
Lebanon hosted Elizabethtown in hopes of starting their season with a spark that would show growth after two painful seasons of rebuilding.
The 1st quarter saw E-Town build an 18-11 advantage. However, freshman Derek Franco did not waste any time announcing his arrival as he scored 6 points in his first quarter of varsity basketball. Manny Martinez accounted for the other 5 points for the Cedars.
The rest of the way, Lebanon went toe-to-toe with E-Town, losing each quarter by a single point. Franco continued to carry the load and finished the game with 24 points. While he was the main focus of the offense, it opened up scoring opportunities for his teammates as a balanced scoring attack emerged. Lebanon also combined for six three-pointers in the game.
While it was a loss, there should be a high level of optimism for Cedar Nation after this performance.
Lebanon (0-1) will look for their first win in over two years when they host their annual tip-off tournament beginning Friday night.

Schuykill Haven 57, Northern Lebanon 51
Northern Lebanon got their 2024 campaign started on Monday evening with a road game at Schuylkill Haven.
The 1st quarter started with strong defense by the Vikings as they limited Schuylkill Haven to just 7 points. Matching the 7 point effort for Northern Lebanon was Andrew Via. Brady Krall added a bucket, giving the Vikings the 9-7 lead.
In the 2nd quarter, Schuylkill Haven adjusted. Despite 6 points from Krall, the hosts had built a 25-20 lead by halftime.
Out of the half, Riley Messinger hit a three-pointer as part of a 7 point effort. However, Schuylkill Haven added to their lead in the frame and carried a 43-35 lead going into the 4th.
In the final quarter, the Vikings kept fighting. Messigner and Krall each hit three-pointers, who, along with Connor Stoltz, combined for 16 points. While they cut into the deficit, it would not be enough by the final buzzer.
Krall led the Vikings offensively, finishing the game with 17 points. Messinger scored 12, and Via added 10.
Northern Lebanon (0-1) will play again on Wednesday at Upper Dauphin.
