Jason Foutz
At the Solanco Mule Wrestling Classic, Palmyra’s Jason Foutz fought his way to the 107-pound championship. The senior won all five of his matches, victories that included two pins, a tech fall, and a major decision over one of Pennsylvania’s top wrestlers. In the championship, Foutz pinned a wrestler from Delaware in a match that lasted 1:29. Following his accomplishment, Foutz was voted as the LebCo Male Athlete of the Week.
Foutz is no stranger to finding success on the mat. Entering his senior season, Foutz had compiled a varsity record of 43-18, including posting a 25-9 record last season. So far this season, Foutz has a 9-1 record. His only loss came this past weekend at the Moon Duals where he wrestled a higher weight-class to help Palmyra to a 5-1 record.
After working hard in the off-season, his efforts have continued to be rewarded, including finishing 5th at the Fargo Junior National Wrestling Championships in July. After earning All-American honors, he has now set his next goal a little closer to home, with his sights set on climbing the podium at this year’s PIAA State Championships.
About Foutz’s rise, Palmyra Wrestling Coach Jon Regets said, “Jason has been the most consistent year-round wrestler that we’ve had at Palmyra during my seven seasons. Last year was his first season as the consensus starter at 107lbs, and he rode it all the way to a District III Regional Qualification. Jason continued riding the wave into the spring by qualifying for both the Freestyle and Greco National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota, this year, culminating in Palmyra’s FIRST EVER wrestling All-American.”
Regents went on to say, “This school season, Jason has a massive chip on his shoulder… he’s overlooked and under-ranked.”
Foutz is not a stranger to overcoming challenges, as he battles the effects of Tourette’s Syndrome on a daily basis. While it can be debilitating, sometimes affecting his mobility, Foutz continues working hard to unlock his potential.
Outside of wrestling, Foutz challenges himself by running cross country and track, following in the footsteps of his father, who ran collegiately for Lehigh University. The younger Foutz would like to find success as a wrestler at the collegiate level.
Before he can worry about wrestling in college, Foutz will be laser-focused on proving just where he should rank among the State’s best wrestlers. We wish him the best of luck and look forward to following his journey.
