Camron Buchmoyer

In a close Week 7 loss to Elizabethtown, 14-8, the Lebanon Cedar Football Team’s defensive effort was led by outstanding play from linebacker Camron Buchmoyer. The junior racked up 17 tackles, 10 of which were solo, as he flew around the field to limit the opposing offense. Of those tackles, three were for a loss. It was this effort that led to Buchmoyer being selected as a LebCo Male Athlete of the Week.

About the performance, Buchmoyer said, “Last week’s performance set the bar high for me because i want to aim to do better every week and after an impressive game like that it makes it difficult. But, I can do it.”

What helped him to make so many tackles in just 60 plays on defense? Buchmoyer said, “In the game, we knew our assignments. We just had to go in and execute.”

Through seven games, Buchmoyer had registered 80 tackles. This included three games where he hit double digits in that department. Additionally, he was recently moved to help on the offensive line and recorded 10 pancake blocks in just three games.

Buchmoyer’s goal is to reach 100 tackles for the season. In Week 8 against Governor Mifflin, he unofficially added another 11 tackles, putting him at 91 with two games left to play.

The junior’s breakout season follows some challenges he faced with the arrival of first-year head coach Tyler Pritchett and an entirely new staff. Buchmoyer rose to the occasion to prove his worth to the new coaches and has continued to exceed those expectations.

Looking to the future, Buchmoyer is hoping to secure a college scholarship to continue his playing career. While it is easy to dismiss an 8-0 Lebanon team, one has to be careful not to discount the talent that exists on the roster for the Cedars. Given his size, speed, and ability on the field, there is a good chance that he will have that opportunity.

In addition to his commitment to excellence on the gridiron, Buchmoyer is also a very talented student academically. He currently boasts a 3.87 GPA (unweighted). While he is unsure of a future college major, he does know that his dream school is Penn State.

We wish Cam all the best as he works to his junior campaign strong and with his goal of reaching 100 tackles. Additionally, we wish the Cedars all the best in the final two games of the season.

Bryce Hoglund

During the Week of September 30th, the ELCO Boys Soccer Team went 2-1 with victories over Donegal and Northern Lebanon, followed by a close 3-2 loss to Lower Dauphin. In those games, Bryce Hoglund had a significant impact, totaling 2 goals and 5 assists. This came after the senior stepped up to change positions to help the Raiders as they accounted for injuries. For his efforts and team-first mentality, Hoglund was rewarded by the LebCoSports.com voters, who chose him as a LebCo Male Athlete of the Week.

While Hoglund has been instrumental in helping the Raiders all season, it was entirely on defense. It was not until the game against Donegal that he moved to play forward, a position that he had never played before. While he clearly had the ability to make the switch to help the team, his play at the position made his coaches look like Myerstown’s versions of Nate Shelly.

To Coach Jamie Cascarino, moving his senior captain was a move that he described as “there was something in Bryce about that day which led me and the coaching staff to believe he could really help us in the forward position, and we were correct.”

The ELCO Head Coach went on to say, “Bryce has been a pivotal part of our team since the very beginning of the season. He was named as one of our captains and his leadership style is always positive, encouraging and very much that of service leadership.”

He elaborated on Hoglund’s leadership, saying, “Bryce always is helping with getting everything ready for the team (water coolers, gear, etc.). There was one time when I walked into the locker room for pregame and as I walked in Bryce was reading inspirational messages to the team. Bottom line, Bryce always gives our team his very best and wants everyone around him to do the same, despite working through a variety of injuries along the way.”

Hoglund obviously took his role as a leader very seriously, reflecting on the experience by saying, “I have tried my best to be a team player and support my teammates on and off the field.”

The success that he found as a senior followed a frustrating junior season, during which he was limited due to a back injury that he is still working to manage. This includes a fair number of ice baths to speed up his recovery from training and competition.

Though “Hoagie” has played soccer for fourteen years, it is not his only sport. During the Winter and Spring seasons, he is a pole vaulter in Track & Field. He is very thankful for his parents that have supported him every step of the journey. It is worth noting that his father was a quarterback for ELCO and went on to run track at Millersville.

When he’s not training or competing, Hoglund is spending his weekends watching Premier League Soccer. While he enjoys watching the sport, his loyalties lie with Leicester City. His favorite player is Jamie Vardy. Another way that Hoglund spends his weekends is worshipping at Lifeway Church in Lebanon.

A serious student, Hoglund’s post-secondary plans include studying to become an Optometrist.

Having completed their regular season the Raiders are currently 9-7-2, sitting just outside of District 3 qualification. Unless something strange occurs, Hoglund’s high school soccer career is over. However, the impact of his leadership will live on as the underclassmen step in to fill his role next season.

We congratulate Bryce on his success and wish him even more of it in the next phase of life.
