v Warwick

(0-1)    Warwick 24, Cedar Crest 13

(1-0)    Cedar Crest 18, Warwick 12

D (1-0)   Cedar Crest 14, Warwick 12

The Falcon “B” Team engaged in a battle that lasted all afternoon with Warwick. The Falcons stayed hungry and remained aggressive but ultimately lost in the end. The coaches are certain that their players will use it as a learning opportunity to improve for next week.

The Falcon “C” Team hit the field excited to start the 2024 season.  On this beautiful, but hot, Sunday, the Falcons had some first game jitters, affecting them on offense the first couple drives.  The Warwick Warriors went up 6-0, but the Falcons put a drive together, which set up Chase Reesman to run the ball for a 15-yard touchdown. At the half, the score was tied 6-6. Out of the break, Warwick took a 12-6 lead. Again, the Falcons responded on a play that started with a fumbled snap and ended with Nolan Polite running 10 yards across the goal line. With the score tied 12-12 at the end of regulation, the two squads headed to OT. In Warwick’s first possession of the extra frame, the Falcons held their ground and stopped them with great team defense led by playmakers Mason Kleinfelter and Elijah Grose. The Falcon offense took the field and on the first play, Cameron Wamsher took the ball for 10 yards, plowing into the endzone to end the game with a Cedar Crest victory.
In addition to the players mentioned, the defensive unit was bolstered by the efforts of  Boston Speece and Derrick Santana, who were all over the field on defense.

The Falcon “D” Team got off to a fast start led by quarterback Carson Baer and touchdown runs by Nico Aungst and Logan Hallman. In the 2nd half, the Falcons had to overcome costly penalties combined with a late game turnover to hold off a tough Warwick team. The key play came when Gavin Baer and Brandon Soboleski defended a pass near the goal line as time expired to hold on for a 14-12 win.

Northern Lebanon hosted the 4th annual Lebanon Bologna Bowl, sponsored by Seltzer’s. The traveling trophy is awarded to the program that wins the best of three out of the Midget, Pony, and Peewee games.

The Viking Midget squad, featuring 7th and 8th graders from Jonestown and Fredericksburg, scored first when wide receiver Ty Martin made a highlight-reel run on a jet sweep. He zig-zagged his way downfield and broke tackles for a 38-yard touchdown. The Vikings missed the extra-point kick. The score was 6-0 until the middle of the 3rd quarter when running back Sam Kline provided a spark that opened the game up for the Vikings with a 25-yard run to get into the end zone. Running back Jonathan Zimmerman ran in the extra point. On the next possession, cornerback Chris Camasta picked off an out-route and took it 45 yards to the house. Kline ran in the extra point.

Palmyra got on the scoreboard late with a run from their quarterback to make the score 20-6. However, on the next drive, Zimmerman ran in the ball from the 50-yard line for another Vikings touchdown. Canasta kicked the extra point through the uprights. Lineman Justin Bennethum had a great day on both sides of the ball, and defensive back Jacob Boltz had an interception as time expired to seal the 28-6 victory.

For the Viking Smurfs, the visiting Palmyra Cougars proved to be too much. After forcing an early turnover, the Cougars stunned the Vikings on their first offensive play with a long pass going for a touchdown. The young Vikings continued to fight, with linebackers Grady Wiest and Hudson Royer leading the way defensively. Liam Monk and Jayce Martin flashed for the Viking defense in the second half. The Viking Smurfs have plenty to build on as they continue to grow following a tough outing against Palmyra.

Both the Viking Peewee and Viking Pony teams lost to a strong Palmyra Cougars team, resulting in the Bologna Bowl trophy going to Palmyra until 2025!

Up NextOn Sunday, Northern Lebanon will travel to play the Hershey Trojans.
